Background / History
Saiyans originated on Planet Sadala. An ancient civil war preceded the planet’s destruction; survivors wandered the universe and eventually settled on the world known as Planet Vegeta 336. Under Planet Vegeta’s birth-based warrior system, low-level Saiyan orphans could face dangerous wilderness training with little medical support 1 2.
Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta, but Roland and Sephiria had transferred a group of Saiyans to Planet Kasha. That survivor community later moved to the restored Planet Sadala, which Sephiria presented as both their origin world and a place to escape Frieza’s forces 34 82 84.
On Sadala, training, the planet’s environment, and improved living conditions helped the population grow stronger. Five years after the move, Saiyan–Vine Race children numbered nearly a thousand; a later count recorded 2,600 pure-blooded Saiyans and 3,800 mixed-bloods 126 127 270.
Appearance
Saiyans have a largely human appearance, with a tail among the recognizable traits of Planet Vegeta Saiyans 277 322.
- Hair: Black hair is common; Saiyan–Vine Race children can have dark-green hair or green-tinted hair ends 128 272.
- Tail: A Saiyan attacker was identified by his brown tail, while Goku’s former tail also drew attention as a Saiyan trait 277 322.
- Variation: Whis states that the Saiyans of Universe 6 do not have tails 464.
