Third Shinobi World War

Kumogakure declared war on Konoha, Sunagakure, and Iwagakure. Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi recalled Konoha's ninja, suspended missions, and convened a war council. As the village mobilized, it sent forces toward threatened borders and assigned commanders to its fronts 26 27.

Konoha's forces fought Cloud ninja under Orochimaru's command. Karot's battlefield performance earned him a promotion to Jonin, and his later rampage helped force a Cloud retreat, though his transformed state also endangered Leaf ninja 28 30 39. After the Cloud front quieted, Konoha withdrew wounded personnel for recovery while leaving a border guard in place 40.

Orochimaru's administration

Orochimaru defeated Minato Namikaze in the vote for the Fourth Hokage and succeeded Hiruzen Sarutobi 102 103. He appointed Uchiha Shisui to lead the Police Force and established a Propaganda Department that improved villagers' understanding of its work. He also appointed Tsunade director of the hospital 103.

Attacks on the village

During Kushina Uzumaki's labor, an attacker calling himself Madara Uchiha broke the Nine-Tails' seal. Orochimaru and other Konoha ninja fought the beast while Jonin secured the village and evacuated civilians 107 108.

Later, Akatsuki members attacked Konoha while Orochimaru and Karot were away at the Five Kage Summit. The assault caused heavy casualties and left Orochimaru extensive work upon his return 227 228 243 254.

Institutions and Village Life

• Hokage's office — The village's leadership directed wartime mobilization, missions, and appointments from the Hokage Building 26 103.
• Ninja Academy — Karot and Kakashi Hatake enrolled after passing its entrance assessment 2.
• Police Force — Shisui became its head under Orochimaru; its new Propaganda Department worked to improve its public image 103.
• Hospital — Tsunade was appointed director. It received injured ninja and villagers during an attack on Konoha 76 103.
• Commerce — On returning to the village, Karot observed busy vendors and cargo traffic and remarked on its prosperity 129.
