Background

Karot is a reincarnated individual who retained memories of his prior life. He originally awakened in a Dragon Ball-world facility among tailed children, but the System detected that Planet Vegeta was about to be destroyed and forcibly transferred him to the Naruto world instead 1.

He became the eldest son of Hatake Sakumo and Kakashi's older brother, despite not existing in the original family line. His Saiyan tail drew attention at birth, and Sakumo's status as Konoha's White Fang protected him from being dissected for study 1.

Karot's System initially imposed a major limitation: it siphoned away 99% of his chakra gains as repair fees, leaving him unable to condense chakra normally. Rather than granting power directly, it taught him Turtle School methods and required him to train personally 1.

He entered the Ninja Academy partly to help support his family, whose finances were strained by his enormous appetite. Though he attended little formal schooling, he entered the graduation assessment at Sakumo's request and displayed strength far beyond his age 1 7 8.

Appearance

Karot is a white-haired Saiyan who strongly resembles Son Goku in facial features, a resemblance noticed immediately after his arrival in the Dragon Ball world 176 181.

  • Has a Saiyan tail, normally concealed or wrapped around his waist 11 176.
  • Wears weighted clothing during training and combat; his removed inner garment is heavy enough to surprise Kakashi 11.
  • Uses martial arts uniforms, including green attire early in his ninja career and later an orange-red Turtle School uniform 13 15.
  • Can transform into a massive, fur-covered Great Ape under moonlight or artificial lunar light 38 186.

Personality

Karot is intensely driven by training and strong opponents. He finds weak enemies uninteresting and may delay acting until an opponent becomes worth fighting; this tendency is directly tied to his Saiyan battle instinct 17 65. He prefers solitary training and declined Son Goku's invitation to train together despite admiring Goku's strength 182.

He is blunt, proud, and frequently provocative in battle. He taunts opponents he considers weak, dislikes being used without permission, and reacts strongly when others challenge his autonomy or dignity 9 192. His confidence can become an “invincibility complex,” though he is willing to acknowledge when stronger opponents surpass him 182 261.

Despite this, Karot protects allies in immediate danger, rescues Jiraiya from Pain, heals Kakashi after overexertion, and asks Naruto to care for Boruto after noticing the boy's situation 74 124 156. He is also deeply food-motivated, capable of consuming extraordinary quantities and creating financial strain for those feeding him 1 51 69.

Abilities & Skills

Saiyan Physiology

Karot possesses Saiyan talent described as having no upper limit. Battle and recovery accelerate his growth, while his tail enables Great Ape transformation 1 189.

  • Gains increased strength after surviving near-fatal injuries 189.
  • His enormous appetite is a persistent consequence of his Saiyan body 1 51.
  • Retained his tail while most Earth-based Saiyans had lost theirs 176 186.
  • Cannot initially transform into a Super Saiyan despite knowing of the form and seeking to reach it 177 182.

Ki Manipulation

Karot relies on Ki rather than conventional chakra. His Ki can suppress or interfere with nearby chakra and scales dramatically through training and combat 11.

  • Projects blue, yellow, and other visible Ki auras 11 34 116.
  • Fires Ki Blasts, including finger-fired beams and barrages 29 195 202.
  • Can use his aura as overwhelming pressure against weaker foes 192.
  • His large-scale techniques can cause exhaustion when used beyond his control 29.

Taijutsu

Karot's principal combat style is direct hand-to-hand fighting, supported by exceptional physical speed, strength, and reactions.

  • Defeated Sharingan users by moving faster than their bodies could respond to what their eyes perceived 9.
  • Overpowered multiple Stone Ninja using only physical combat 22.
  • Fought A repeatedly and survived exchanges with the Raikage-level combatant 34 38.
  • Can break weapons with his fingers and defeat powerful opponents with single strikes 122 195.

Turtle School Techniques

The System teaches Karot the Turtle School's martial arts rather than automatically granting them to him 1.

  • Wolf Fang Frenzy Fist — A rapid claw-like striking barrage used against Hatake Sakumo 11.
  • Kamehameha — His signature large-scale Ki beam; destroyed an Eight-Tails Tailed Beast Bomb and blasted the Eight-Tails away 35.
  • Energy Discs — Controlled cutting energy projectiles used to cut through Cloud Ninja forces 29.
  • Flight Technique — Allows aerial movement and rescue operations; used to save teammates from swamp ninjutsu 22.
  • Afterimage Fist — An improved version of Tien Shinhan's technique that creates three copies possessing his full strength until his Ki is depleted or he releases them 179.

Kaioken

Karot can activate Kaioken despite King Kai never teaching him the technique 185 186.

  • Multiplies his power and aura against opponents such as Cell 185.
  • Causes significant environmental disruption when activated 185.
  • Has a time limit and cannot indefinitely compensate for an opponent's regeneration 186.

Great Ape Transformation

Karot becomes a Great Ape when exposed to the full moon or an artificial moon-like light source 38 186.

  • First transformed involuntarily after opening his eyes toward the moon during his battle with A 38.
  • Overpowered Matatabi through raw size and strength 38.
  • Sakumo stopped the rampage by severing Karot's tail, causing him to lose consciousness 40.
  • Later learns to retain control and speech in the transformed state 186.
  • Requires his tail and an appropriate light source 187.

Healing

Karot can use Ki to heal others and later works as a doctor on Earth 177 181.

  • Heals Tenten after her attempt to treat him causes her injury 177.
  • Restores Kakashi after chakra overuse, though he deliberately limits Kakashi's recovered strength 124.
  • Treats Hyuga Sanada's wounds during a border mission 22.
  • Uses Ki Blast Healing on patients after settling on Earth 181.

Space-Time Techniques

Karot gains access to Dragon Vein-derived space-time power after the System absorbs the Dragon Vein 84 190.

  • Teleports himself and others away from immediate threats 67 74.
  • Uses Ki signatures as destinations for Instant Transmission 67.
  • Plans and trains a defensive technique modeled after Kamui, using Dragon Vein power to displace threatened body parts into another space 190.
  • Space-time travel can cause severe physical and emotional consequences; a failed transit leaves him critically injured and later emotionally withdrawn 175 176 209.

Equipment / Items

  • Weighted clothing — Worn daily to restrict his physical power 11 34.
  • Turtle School martial arts uniforms — Green early on, later orange-red with Turtle School markings 13 15.
  • Gravity Chamber — Constructed through Orochimaru's research for Karot's high-gravity training 41.
  • Phone — Used to take selfies with Porunga on Namek 178.

Relationships

  • Hatake Sakumo — Father; protects Karot from scrutiny, spars with him to assess his strength, and later severs his tail to end his Great Ape rampage 1 11 40.
  • Hatake Kakashi — Younger brother and frequent sparring partner; admires Karot's strength but struggles with being overshadowed by him 1 10 124.
  • Matsushita Hokuto — Jonin instructor; leads Karot's Genin team and repeatedly entrusts him with protecting the team in combat 12 22.
  • Hyuga Sanada — Teammate who initially doubts Karot; later becomes a friend, with Karot treating his injuries and attending his wedding 12 22 60.
  • Kazumi / Miwako — Medical-nin teammate; Karot rescues her in battle and later escorts her home, suggesting growing feelings 12 22 261.
  • Orochimaru — Ally, research partner, and political associate; develops the Gravity Chamber for Karot, receives his help with experiments, and works alongside him in Konoha's power struggles 40 41 136.
  • Uchiha Shisui — Karot's first subordinate after losing to him; remains a loyal ally and guide within the Uchiha clan 45 51.
  • Namikaze Minato — Mission partner during the Rōran incident; Karot respects him as a senior and works with him against Anrokuzan 60 65.
  • Naruto Uzumaki — Ally across timelines; Naruto accepts Karot after their reunion, while Karot later entrusts Boruto's care to him 69 156.
  • Son Goku — Friend and rival; Karot admires Goku's pure nature and repeatedly seeks him out for tests of strength and serious fights 181 199 203.
  • Vegeta — Rival; Vegeta resents Karot's resemblance to Goku and feels threatened by Karot's strength 177 182.
  • Son Gohan — Friend and protector during Karot's recovery on Earth; their bond grows through shared battles and training 177 178.
  • Bulma — Provides Karot shelter after his arrival on Earth and supports his recovery while he waits to use the Dragon Balls 177.
  • Tenten — Attempts to heal Karot after his arrival on Earth; Karot later heals her when the treatment backfires 177.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Early Konoha Career

Karot enters the Ninja Academy despite being unable to use chakra normally. During his graduation examination, he defeats an Uchiha Chunin who uses Sharingan, Shadow Clones, and Great Fireball Technique, earning graduation and provoking hostility from the Uchiha 8 9 10.

His subsequent spar with Sakumo reveals his blue Ki and awakening Saiyan potential. Sakumo assesses him as Jonin-level, while Kakashi resolves to pursue Hatake swordsmanship after witnessing the gap between them 11.

Matsushita Team and Shinobi War

After joining Matsushita Hokuto, Sanada, and Miwako, Karot completes numerous high-rank missions and becomes a Chunin. He protects his teammates during conflicts with Stone Ninja and later distinguishes himself against Cloud Ninja forces 15 21 22.

During the war, he uses Energy Discs and Karot's Wave Cannon to devastate Cloud forces, becomes a target of A, and eventually destroys an Eight-Tails Tailed Beast Bomb with Kamehameha 29 34 35.

Great Ape Incident and War's End

Karot transforms into a Great Ape after seeing the moon during a confrontation with A. In his rampage, he battles Matatabi until Sakumo cuts off his tail to stop him 38 40.

Following the war, he defeats Uchiha Shisui and accepts Shisui's allegiance, marking the beginning of his own subordinates 45.

Dragon Vein and Time Displacement

Karot accompanies Minato to Rōran to investigate the Dragon Vein. He confronts Anrokuzan, permits the enemy to become stronger for the sake of a better fight, then removes him from Rōran before the Dragon Vein's self-destruction 60 65 67.

The resulting catastrophe sends Karot into a later Naruto timeline. He temporarily stays with Naruto's team, rescues Jiraiya from Pain, and eventually returns to Konoha when the System chooses the landing location 69 74 84.

Other Dimensions and Earth

Karot leaves Konoha to seek stronger opponents in other dimensions. After a later space-time accident, he is transported into the Dragon Ball world while severely injured 104 175 176.

On Earth, he recovers with Bulma, Gohan, and Tenten's assistance, tests himself against Super Saiyan Goku, trains in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and battles Cell with Kaioken, Instant Transmission, Kamehameha, and a controlled Great Ape form 178 181 184 185 186.

He later fights alongside Goku's group against Babidi and Dabura, then pursues an extended rivalry with Goku that pushes his Ki beyond Super Saiyan 2 195 199 203.
