Background / History
Taiyi was among the Great Beings who raced to Dao Ancestor Hongjun’s Purple Cloud Palace to hear the Dao. He appeared alongside Di Jun and the Three Pure Ones during the contest to enter the palace first. 2
At the East Sea, Taiyi attempted to reclaim Taotie for the Demon Race after Ye Jun subdued the beast as his mount. Initially wary of Ye Jun’s Quasi-Saint cultivation, he tried negotiation before invoking the Chaos Bell and attacking. He transformed into a Three-legged Golden Crow, but Ye Jun suppressed the Chaos Bell with the Qiankun Cauldron and wounded him with the God-Slaying Spear. Di Jun later arrived to support Taiyi, yet the brothers were defeated and yielded Taotie. 25 26 27 28
Taiyi pushed Di Jun to act against East King Duke and the growing Purple Mansion, arguing that the Demon Race should not fear Hongjun’s appointed Head of Male Immortals. After the Purple Mansion’s fall and East King Duke’s death, Taiyi and Di Jun absorbed his luck. 36 38
As the Demon Race Heavenly Court expanded, Taiyi proposed Changxi and Xihe of Taiyin Star as candidates for Di Jun’s Heavenly Empresses. When they resisted, he displayed Solar True Fire and later clashed with Ye Jun on Taiyin Star, where he and Di Jun were again wounded and forced to retreat. 44 45 46
During the Witch-Demon War, Taiyi fought Zhu Rong, Gong Gong, Zhu Jiuyin, and Ju Mang at once. He injured Zhu Rong and Gong Gong, repelled Ju Mang, and nearly killed Zhu Rong before Di Jiang intervened. His strength proved insufficient against the Pangu phantom summoned through the Twelve Capital Gods and Fiends Great Array; he and Di Jun were defeated by a single axe blow. 48 51 Di Jun later used the River Diagram and Luo Book to shield Taiyi while severely wounded. 52
Taiyi continued to oppose Ye Jun after the war. He joined Di Jun, Jieyin, and Zhunti in an unsuccessful assault on Wuji Mountain, where Great Immortal Yang Mei effortlessly sent him away. Later, Taiyi led 365 Demon Gods to deploy the Grand Formation of the Stars against Ye Jun. 63 65 106 107

Personality

He is ambitious and forceful in Demon Race affairs. Taiyi urged Di Jun to destroy the Purple Mansion, questioned why Di Jun could not become Head of Male Immortals, and later promoted the plan for Di Jun to take Heavenly Empresses. 36 44
Despite his pride, Taiyi can be pragmatic when confronting a stronger opponent. Before their first battle, he tried to speak deferentially to Ye Jun rather than immediately using force. 25 In combat, however, he is relentless, continuing to press attacks even while facing several Ancestor Witches at once. 48
