Background and History

Kunpeng lost his seat at Purple Heaven Palace after refusing to yield it during Jieyin and Zhunti’s dispute. Hongyun’s intervention compounded his resentment, and Kunpeng left vowing to kill Hongyun once they were outside the palace. Primordial Lord of Heaven’s hostility toward “furred and horned” beings forced Kunpeng from the palace, costing him Hongjun’s three-thousand-year sermon. 33 147

After returning to Beiming, he fought Gonggong and Zhujiuyin for a thousand years while they besieged his Old Ancestor’s Palace. Kunpeng sank the palace into the deepest North Sea, then escaped their blockade using his Nine-Colored Divine Light and fled to the Three Immortal Islands. 48

Kunpeng sought Beichen’s cultivation method and accepted Beichen’s guidance. Beichen’s stored Dao teachings allowed him to rise from late-stage Grand Unity Golden Immortal to Quasi-Saint in two hundred years. After witnessing the Heaven and Earth Great Dao acknowledge the Immortal Island Palace, Kunpeng requested an elder’s position and was appointed its Grand Elder; their positions were bound by Great Dao karma. 48 50 51

Though initially unwilling to involve himself in the Demon Race’s struggle against the Twelve Ancestral Witches, Kunpeng eventually became its Demon Master. He pursued East King Duke after Hongyun gave him a strand of Hongmeng Purple Qi, then reclaimed the qi after Dijun killed East King Duke for betraying and massacring members of the Demon Race. 75 115 123

A recurring dream of teaching all demons led Kunpeng to seek Beichen’s interpretation. Under Beichen’s guidance, he created the Demon Script, gaining vast merit, reaching peak Quasi-Saint cultivation, and receiving the Word Divine Ability. 130 139

His rising destiny, Hongmeng Purple Qi, and Demon Race merit made him a target for Jieyin, Zhunti, and Primordial Lord of Heaven. Kunpeng evaded them through speed, deceptive maneuvering, and his treasures, but was eventually trapped by the Pangu Banner and Twelve-grade Golden Lotus of Merit. Afterward, Kunpeng studied the void barrier of the Taixu Realm and planned to enter Chaos in pursuit of a higher Dao. He later tested the Word Divine Ability against the strengthened Western Saints, but his “Kill” character was effortlessly destroyed, forcing his retreat to the Three Immortal Islands. 185 193

Appearance

Kunpeng possesses two principal true forms: a colossal Kun fish and a Peng divine bird whose wings resemble clouds spanning the sky. 48

Personality

Kunpeng is proud, sharp-tongued, and intensely vindictive. His refusal to surrender his Purple Heaven Palace seat and his long grudge against Hongyun and Primordial Lord of Heaven both stem from his refusal to accept humiliation. 33 147

He is also exceptionally cautious and calculating. He avoids fights he cannot win, prefers secluded North Sea security to exposure, and treats power, merit, and alliances as opportunities to be assessed rather than duties to be embraced. 75 84

Despite his self-interest, Kunpeng recognizes superior strength and adapts quickly. He accepted Beichen’s guidance, sought the Grand Elder position after seeing the Immortal Island Palace’s Great Dao endorsement, and came to regard Beichen as his best hope of attaining sainthood. 50 51 130
