Background / History

Shen Yiwei is Lu Xunyang's disciple. His master’s refusal to accept the limits imposed by birth and Heaven profoundly shaped Shen Yiwei’s ideals and his respect for martial artists who rely on their own will. Shen Yiwei himself was once a top Sixth Order martial artist, but Chen Changyuan gravely injured him with three sword strikes; his subsequent decline allowed Zhang Ting to take his authority and have him transferred to Yunmeng City. 103 270

In Yunmeng City, Shen Yiwei spent years investigating the Gong Family’s crimes. His reports repeatedly disappeared without action, while the strain of political compromise, his master’s disappearance, and Chen Changyuan’s defeat left him exhausted and unable to act decisively. 214 245

Chen Yan’s conduct gradually changes Shen Yiwei’s outlook. Seeing Chen Yan act decisively against the Gong Family forces Shen Yiwei to admit that his greatest restraint was himself rather than his enemies.
