Background

Otto Apocalypse created Kiana under the designation K423, combining Sirin’s genes with Cecilia’s maternal love to produce a vessel capable of carrying Herrscher power. After she emerged from her cultivation chamber, Otto gave her the name “Kiana Kaslana” and instructed her to live in the original Kiana’s place. 419 451

Her genetic foundation also includes genes taken from the original Kiana Kaslana. The resulting being contains two distinct souls: Kiana’s kind consciousness, associated with Cecilia’s maternal love, and Sirin’s malicious consciousness, sealed within the core. Otto knowingly built this internal conflict into his vessel; her growing happiness is described as strengthening the malicious soul and increasing the danger of losing control. 419 424 451

Later footage qualifies the idea that every aspect of her existence was a successful, predetermined design. Otto’s experiment used an incomplete bloodline, and a malfunction allowed the embryo to survive its termination program. Otto ordered continued observation, while a silver-haired girl insisted that K423 was a person rather than experimental material. A gentle woman promised the unborn child that she would see the real sky; after awakening, K423’s first word was “Sky.” Her survival and developing personhood are presented as a miracle arising from accidents and people’s choices, not merely Otto’s intended result. 742

Researchers subsequently trained her to fight and survive while repeatedly instilling the commands that she was Kiana, must obey, and existed to complete missions. Nevertheless, her conduct increasingly departed from those instructions: she refused to harm innocents, disobeyed retreat orders to rescue people, and entered areas of concentrated Honkai despite the risk of death. 742 743

The original Kiana Kaslana survived the Second Honkai Eruption. Otto later arranged for her to lose her memories and raised her as Durandal, Schicksal’s strongest Valkyrie. Thus, both girls bearing the name Kiana became pieces in Otto’s designs. 420 452

Siegfried initially found K423 believing that she was his lost daughter and took her in with affection. He later learned that she was a clone. Another account of the rescue shows him attacking Schicksal to free K423, with the original Kiana falling into an abyss during the escape before Otto recovered her and erased her former identity. 419 420 424

K423’s apparently ordinary life was also planned. Otto directed her to meet Mei and Bronya, attend St. Freya Academy, and form attachments that would make her human enough to become useful; Fu Hua was placed beside her as a monitor. 452 453 Otto’s ultimate objective was to cultivate Kiana into a living key capable of bearing multiple Herrscher Authorities, crossing the Imaginary Barrier, and reaching the World Line where Kallen Kaslana could be restored. 538 647 649

When Kiana discovers her origin, she is left questioning her identity: “Who... am I?” 420 Her struggle thereafter is not only against Honkai and Herrschers, but against the role Otto wrote for her as an expendable experiment.

Otto’s control depends on engineered circumstances rather than simple coercion. Love, grief, loyalty, and sacrifice are intended to guide Kiana into choosing the actions his plan requires. Himeko’s sacrifice preserves her humanity, but Otto also anticipates that it will intensify her protective resolve. The observers conclude that escaping this design requires Kiana to recognize the hidden script and choose her own reason for living, not merely acquire greater power. 648 649

The Light Screen eventually explicitly separates K423 from Kevin of the Previous Civilization, the Kiana of Finality from another World Line, and the era’s original Kiana Kaslana. Similar appearance, bloodline, and power do not make her another person’s counterpart or replacement. Her identity is instead defined by her own experiences and decisions. 742 743

Her final confrontation with Otto resolves this distinction. She acknowledges that he created her body without accepting that he is her father or owns her future. After destroying his golden core, she is confirmed as Kiana in her own right, with her future left for her to choose. 744 745 746

Kiana is a white-haired, blue-eyed young woman usually seen in a white combat suit. Her ordinary appearance contrasts sharply with the scale of the destructive power she carries. 438 473

Personality

Kiana begins as an innocent, carefree girl whose defining instinct is to protect the people important to her. Even after learning that her identity, friendships, and life were manipulated, she continues to make choices based on compassion rather than resentment. 415 452

She is stubbornly self-sacrificing. When urged to abandon Sky Vault City, she refuses because its remaining civilians still need hope, choosing to face the Honkai Energy Fission Reactor despite the cost to her own life. 474 Her trauma leaves her distant and convinced that she no longer has a home, yet it does not erase her willingness to save even enemies such as Rita. 473

Kiana’s mature strength lies in acknowledging suffering without allowing it to justify further harm. She defeats the Thousand Herrschers by recognizing its pain, affirming the reality of beauty and connection, and choosing redemption over destruction. 521 523

Her attachment to Mei makes separation particularly painful. When Mei attacks her to force her away, Kiana repeatedly rises despite her injuries and refuses to let Mei bear the burden alone. After Fu Hua’s return, discovering that Mei has left for World Serpent sharply interrupts her joy with confusion and grief. 478 486

Her understanding of love also distinguishes compassion from permissiveness. Remembering Mei, she admits that she understands loving someone she cannot have, but rejects possession, destruction, and forcing personal suffering upon others. She identifies love with letting go, protection, inheritance, and responsibility, and refuses to let sympathy excuse the Thousand Herrschers’ crimes. 557

Her eventual freedom does not require forgiveness or denial of her origins. She openly acknowledges both Otto’s role in creating her body and her hatred of him, while denying his right to determine her future. Having escaped her own imposed fate, Kiana extends the same principle to others. Her opposition to Kevin’s Holy Mark Plan rests on the belief that even weak people have the right to choose their future, rather than needing to pass a process of screening to deserve it. 747
