When Grand Master Lingbao encountered a difficult problem and sought help, the first person he thought of was not Venerable Primordial or any other Chan Sect disciple.
It was his close friend, True Person Du'e.
True Person Du'e's abode was Eight Treasures Spiritual Light Cave on Nine Cauldrons Iron Temple Mountain in Western Kunlun. He was a renowned independent immortal of the Primordial World.
Western Kunlun was also home to another great deity, the Queen Mother of the West, so there had to be some connection between the two.
After all, how could one allow another to snore beside one's bed?
Come to think of it, this fellow seemed to be quite the old peacemaker. He was friendly with both Grand Master Lingbao of the Chan Sect and Niangniang Shiji of the Jie Cult.
He had two disciples under him: Li Jing and Zheng Lun.
Later, both betrayed their master. Li Jing took Daoist Randeng, the Chan Sect's vice sect master, as his master, while Zheng Lun took Lü Yue of the Jie Cult as his master.
For some reason, True Person Du'e bore not the slightest grievance and maintained a balanced relationship with both sects.
Grand Master Lingbao recovered his magical power with his help, then took San Xiao and followed the traces left by the Western Sect all the way to the East Sea.
From afar, he spotted the Daoist robe, Demon Slaying Sword, and Dragon Tiger Seal on Buddha Pilu's person, and flew into a towering rage on the spot.
Some of the other bald heads were also carrying items that had come from his cave abode.
Although the Two Sages of the West were present, he still showed them no courtesy and immediately cursed them all out.
Daoist Jieyin and Daoist Zhunti's faces darkened. Had they not known that Grand Master Lingbao was one of the Chan Sect's Twelve Golden Immortals, they would have slapped him to death long ago.
This time, they had come under orders to test Ye Changqing and had already prepared themselves for the consequences of angering Sect Master Tongtian.
Provoking another Venerable Primordial would be especially unwise.
"Little friend, why do you speak such nonsense?"
Daoist Jieyin forcibly squeezed out a smile as he asked.
But in the eyes of the rage-burning Grand Master Lingbao, that smile became a sneer.
People said that the Two Sages of the West had no shame. Today, he had finally seen it for himself.
Yunxiao silently handed Grand Master Lingbao an immortal sword, then returned to Golden Ao Island with Qiongxiao and Bixiao.
The current situation was the Western Sect and Chan Sect tearing at each other like dogs. It was not suitable for them to remain here.
San Xiao landed on Golden Ao Island. Daoist Duobao and Zhao Gongming had returned before them.
The whole group stood behind Ye Changqing, watching this carefully orchestrated spectacle.
Seeing his own clothes worn by someone else, Grand Master Lingbao grew angrier the more he thought after taking a step back. Gripping the immortal sword in his hand, he charged straight at Buddha Pilu.
Though the Two Sages of the West frowned, they still did not intervene.
Venerable Primordial was not as easy to deal with as Sect Master Tongtian. Once angered, even Laozi would be drawn in.
In a two-against-two fight, they truly would not be a match for those two.
"Since this young friend of the Chan Sect wishes to have a contest, accompany him and have some fun."
Daoist Zhunti gave the order in a calm tone.
The brilliance of this move lay in the fact that even when they had no reason, it made them seem justified, making it appear that the Chan Sect disciple had taken the initiative to cause trouble.
Having obtained the Dragon Tiger Seal and Demon Slaying Sword, Buddha Pilu felt far stronger than he had been in the Jie Cult.
Yet Grand Master Lingbao claimed the moment he opened his mouth that these spiritual treasures belonged to him.
How could meat already in one's mouth be spat back out?
Besides, he now had the Two Sages of the West as his backers. Both were Saint's disciples, so why should he fear a Grand Master Lingbao?
Buddha Pilu sneered, his eyes filled with killing intent as he decided to kill him on the spot.
"Fellow Daoist, do not blame this poor monk's sword for showing no mercy!"
The moment he heard that voice, Grand Master Lingbao's entire body shuddered.
That was right—this was the voice!
Before he had passed out, one of the three people who had robbed him had possessed a voice and manner of speaking exactly the same as this one!
As for the other two voices, they also seemed very familiar. When he thought carefully about it, cold sweat broke out all over him.
Grand Master Lingbao's gaze fell upon the Two Sages of the West nearby, his expression incomparably complicated.
So it had been the three of them!
No wonder the grand formation around his cave abode had been broken without him sensing a thing.
No wonder he had been utterly unable to resist in the hands of those three robbers.
After all, two Saints had been among them!
Just as he wanted to say something, Buddha Pilu had already taken advantage of his distraction and charged before him.
Buddha Pilu attacked at full strength from the very start, fighting life for life without holding back in the slightest.
Grand Master Lingbao instantly understood—they wanted to kill him to silence him.
He hurriedly fought the other side while trying to contact his Master, Venerable Primordial.
For some reason, however, his voice transmission vanished into the sea like a clay ox once again.
When he looked again at the Two Sages of the West, he found an inexplicable smile on their faces.
Grand Master Lingbao blanched in shock. No longer caring to fight Buddha Pilu, he turned and fled.
And the direction in which he fled was Golden Ao Island.
The three teachings were bound together branch and stem; surely they would not stand by and watch him be killed without lifting a hand... right?
In truth, he was troubled as well. After all, he knew perfectly well how they had treated the disciples of the Jie Cult.
"Don't run!"
Buddha Pilu had no intention of letting such a fine opportunity to prove himself slip away, and he roared.
The Dragon Tiger Seal in his hand was unleashed, transforming into a dragon and a tiger that pursued Grand Master Lingbao.
Grand Master Lingbao pushed himself to the limit, employing his fastest escape technique and arriving before Golden Ao Island in the blink of an eye.
Seeing Ye Changqing, Daoist Duobao, and the Three Fairies of Sanxiao who had once saved him all standing there with smiles on their faces, he immediately let out a sigh of relief.
As long as he landed on Golden Ao Island, he would be completely safe!
"Activate the formation!"
At Ye Changqing's command, Daoist Duobao immediately activated the island-protecting grand formation.
A curtain of light shot into the sky, cutting off Grand Master Lingbao's retreat.
Grand Master Lingbao's expression turned incomparably ugly. He was only one step away from Golden Ao Island.
Ye Changqing sat right before him, looking at him with a grin.
With a wave of his hand, a coffin appeared before Grand Master Lingbao.
It seemed to be telling Grand Master Lingbao that he would collect his corpse.
Grand Master Lingbao flew into a rage, but on second thought, hadn't they also sent Ye Changqing a coffin when he was on the verge of death?
He cast Ye Changqing one final look, his gaze exceedingly complicated. There was no longer any time for wild thoughts.
Grand Master Lingbao turned and swung his sword, blocking the Dragon Tiger Seal, only to be blasted tens of thousands of miles away by the impact.
What did it feel like to be struck by one's own magical treasure? Now he knew.
He had only just steadied himself when Buddha Pilu caught up and slashed his sword at his head.
Grand Master Lingbao's expression changed. It was already too late to counterattack, so he could only raise the immortal sword Yunxiao had given him to block.
"Break!"
On Golden Ao Island, Yunxiao chanted an incantation, and Grand Master Lingbao's immortal sword snapped in response.
"Master, it's your turn to make an appearance!"
Ye Changqing sent a voice transmission to Sect Master Tongtian, allowing him to settle the old grudge.
Then he quietly put away the Chaos Bead and restored the heavenly secrets to normal.
"This is bad!"
The Two Sages of the West immediately sensed that something was wrong. Just as they wanted to save Grand Master Lingbao, a figure blocked their path.
"Tongtian, you..."
Daoist Jieyin and Daoist Zhunti were both furious and flustered for a moment, yet utterly powerless.
They could only watch helplessly as Buddha Pilu's sword severed Grand Master Lingbao's head.
"Master, save me!"
A Primordial Spirit emerged from the severed head, letting out one final shriek.
With the heavenly secrets no longer in chaos, Venerable Primordial in Jade Void Palace on Kunlun Mountain happened to witness Buddha Pilu cutting off Grand Master Lingbao's head.
"Jieyin, Zhunti!"
"You truly have outrageous nerve..."
