Background
Konoha was jointly founded by the Uchiha and Senju clans. The Hyuga, Nara, and other major clans joined during its early history, while the Uchiha retained substantial influence and maintained a dedicated district within the village 114.
The village is presented as the Land of Fire's military center, while the Land of Fire's Daimyo governs the country's economy. The Hokage serves as Konoha's supreme military commander 122.
During the Second Shinobi World War, Shiyu's parents—an Uchiha and Hyuga Shinku—left the village to live in seclusion, but later fought as Konoha shinobi and were believed to have died on the battlefield. Their child was subsequently entrusted to Konoha 42.

Major Conflicts
Internal Uchiha Tensions
Shiyu, despite being the child of Konoha war heroes, was ostracized and targeted by much of the Uchiha clan. His father's information had also been erased from Uchiha records 35.
The Uchiha Military Police Force later deployed disguised Jonin to ambush Shiyu's group during the Chunin Selection Exams 61. Root's actions against Shisui and Itachi further intensified the village's internal crisis 313 315.
Shiyu ultimately negotiated the Uchiha clan's peaceful departure from Konoha to Shinobi Village, arguing that an entire clan's relocation should not be treated as individual defection. He promised Konoha five years of prosperity if its leadership did not interfere 318.
Wars and Attacks
Konoha fought Sunagakure, Iwagakure, and Kumogakure during the wider conflict later identified as the Second Shinobi World War in the narrative 169 176 222.
Kirigakure exploited Konoha's simultaneous conflicts with other great nations to launch a rear attack. Konoha's forces were stretched across its borders, while casualties from Kirigakure's Seven Ninja Swordsmen were discovered along the front 228.
During the Nine-Tails' rampage, Konoha was heavily damaged. Hiruzen's evacuation orders nevertheless reduced civilian casualties, while Minato fought to protect the village 267.
Relationship with Shiyu
- Uchiha Shiyu — Began as a Konoha Genin and personal disciple of the Third Hokage; his abilities and lineage made him a major figure within the village from childhood 12 40.
- Hiruzen Sarutobi — Initially mentored Shiyu and entrusted him with missions, but later negotiated with him from an adversarial position after Shiyu's imprisonment and defection 12 153 202.
- Danzo — Opposed Shiyu's rise, sought control over him, and was associated with efforts to capture or eliminate him 12 223.
- Jiraiya — Refused to immediately carry out Konoha's secret order to capture Shiyu, acknowledging that the village was no longer worthy of him while urging him not to abandon his comrades 223.
- Uchiha Clan — Left Konoha under Shiyu's protection after the village's internal tensions escalated 318.
- Shinobi Village — Became a friendly neighboring village after Shiyu pledged to defend Konoha from opportunistic attacks following the Uchiha relocation 325.
Later History
After Shiyu's departure, Konoha's top-level strength declined through the loss or absence of figures including Shiyu, Orochimaru, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Minato, and Hatake Sakumo. Shiyu described Hiruzen as being left to withstand the pressure alone 305.
Konoha joined the Six Kage alliance against Akatsuki and the greater threat facing the Ninja World. Hiruzen participated in the Six Kage Summit as Konoha's representative 401 402.
Following the war, the Ninja Allied Forces disbanded and the nations shifted their focus from military expansion to economic development and public welfare. Konoha entered this new period alongside the other shinobi villages 495.
