Background / History

Figo was originally a Marine Captain before transmigrating into the body of an Impel Down jailer. Initially horrified by the prison's brutality, he resolved to leave; over time, however, he adapted to its harsh routine and became increasingly desensitized to its violence. His Prison Archives ability first manifested after he imprisoned a prisoner, recording the target's details and available rewards. 1 3

He rose quickly through Impel Down's ranks. After capturing three Fish-Men and acquiring Fish-Man Power and Fish-Man Karate, he became Vice Jailer Chief, challenged Kinch, and defeated him by cutting through Iron Body in a single slash. He then became Jailer Chief. 6

After eight years in Impel Down, Figo departed to escort seven Giants into the outside world. His later gains from Giants and CP9 members enabled him to develop Life Return, which he used to halt his uncontrolled growth at 280 centimeters. 9 10 33

Figo eventually became Director of Impel Down. When the Five Elders ordered Laughing Jellal transferred, he refused, imprisoned his own teacher Vice Admiral Doug to prevent the order's execution, and openly declared that his identity as a human being with a sense of right and wrong came before his offices. 35

He repeatedly opposed the World Government's abuses, protected victims of slavery, and confronted the Government over the treatment of Giants. After battling three Marine Admirals at age 45 and later losing Doug, Figo chose to imprison himself in Impel Down under the terms later known as the Figo Accord. 59 60 61

Following the World Government's collapse and Imu's defeat, Figo continued to develop the Blue Sea's martial arts and eventually entered the Starry Sky. He became one of its foremost powers, defeated rival Kings, and later advanced his composite bloodline to Mythical grade. 110 146 223 390

Appearance

Figo is an exceptionally large, muscular man whose appearance can be altered through Life Return and his bloodline abilities. Despite his true age, he can maintain a youthful appearance. 33 59 127

  • His height rose from 250 to 280 centimeters before he learned to control it; at other points, his released physique exceeded five meters. 33 99
  • He has fine, short black hair, which he can manipulate through Life Return. 33
  • He commonly wears sunglasses; upon leaving Impel Down after eight years, he exchanged his uniform for casual clothes while retaining them. 9
  • His Moon Lion form gives him snow-white elongated hair, white skin, beast-like pupils, claws, and crackling electricity. 100
  • When fully combining racial powers, he can manifest wings, fins, chains, aurora-like energy, and a body around 50 meters tall. 176
  • After bloodline advancement, he can alter his size, mass, and bodily traits without visibly transforming. 390

Personality

Figo is pragmatic, calm under pressure, and deeply committed to his own judgment of right and wrong. He does not accept institutional authority as a substitute for justice, as shown by his refusal to surrender Jellal despite orders from the Five Elders. 35 38

His early years in Impel Down hardened him; he became comfortable administering punishment and pursuing power through prisoner captures. Yet he consistently protects those he considers innocent or redeemable, frees worthy slaves, grants selected prisoners second chances, and shows compassion toward exploited Devil race children. 3 61 90 150

He is also playful and informal around trusted allies, stealing Garp's donuts, teasing Kinch, and treating imprisonment chains as a habitual way of conversing with others. 60 91 153 His long life and repeated losses have not made him regretful or easily manipulated; Gratt's memory-based ability failed because Figo accepted his past rather than dwelling in it. 360
