History

Creation by Pangu

Pangu cleaved Chaos with the Heaven-Opening Divine Axe, separating the clear from the turbid and establishing the foundations of the Primordial Wilderness. Beyond creating a world, he sought to use its creation and the sacrifice of his body to advance from Hunyuan Wuji Daluo Golden Immortal to the Great Dao Realm 207.

His attempt failed. His body became the world's physical features, while his Primordial Spirit divided into the Three Pure Ones and his essence blood became the Twelve Ancestral Witches. Because these inheritors remained independent beings rather than merging completely into the world's laws, his sacrifice was incomplete 207 208.

Ancient Wars and Western Devastation

The Three Clans' war and the Dao-Devil War left ruined palaces, deserted battlefields, and wounded powers throughout the land. Some survivors withdrew into prolonged seclusion to recover or pursue enlightenment 21 22.

Rahula's destruction of the West's Earth Veins left that region barren and spiritually impoverished. Xuande, Jieyin, and Zhunti undertook its restoration, with Zhenyuanzi and Hong Yun also assisting. Repaired veins gradually released fresh Spiritual Energy, allowing vegetation to return 21 22.

Hongjun's Teachings and Competing Powers

Hongjun's three sermons at Zixiao Palace established a common cultivation framework across the Primordial Wilderness. His Three Corpses method made Innate Spiritual Treasures essential to advancement, although more than half of the Three Thousand Cultivators attending his teaching lacked even one 45 175.

Political authority remained contested. Hongjun appointed King Father of the East and West Queen Mother as leaders of the male and female immortals. Dijun and Taiyi subsequently founded the Demon Clan, while King Father of the East established the Immortal Court. The Demon Clan later founded its Heavenly Court in the Thirty-Three Heavens and claimed dominion over the Three Realms 45 66 126.

Humanity and Reincarnation

Nuwa created the Human Race beneath Mount Sumeru. With Fuxi's guidance, instruction from the West's disciples, and shelter from the Houtu Tribe, humans spread across the world. Their settlements eventually reached the East Sea, the southern volcanic fringes, and the northern ice fields 173 175 240.

Houtu's establishment of the Six Paths of Reincarnation supplied beings with a destination after death, preventing them from remaining as wandering ghosts. Laozi regarded this, together with the Witch Clan's purification of baleful qi, as the fulfillment of duties inherited from Pangu 195.

The Hunyuan Era

Laozi left the Mystic Gate, founded Daoism, and revealed the Golden Core Great Dao. The later attainments of Yuanshi and Tongtian completed the Three Pure Ones' mission of enlightening living beings and provided alternatives to Hongjun's cultivation system 198 214.

Eight Hunyuan beings emerged without relying on Primordial Violet Qi: Nuwa, Houtu, Laozi, Yuanshi, Tongtian, Jieyin, Zhunti, and Xuande. Their attainments overturned Hongjun's intended Heavenly Dao Sage system and shifted the world's fundamental authority back toward the Great Dao 214 216.

Meanwhile, Demon Clan expansion intensified competition for Spiritual Veins, hunting grounds, and water sources. Renewed warfare with the Witch Clan culminated in the deployment of the Great Array of the Stars and the Twelve Dutian Divine Fiends Formation 181 230 232.

Final Battle and New Era

Yang Mei and the resurrected Rahula returned seeking Pangu's Dao Fruit. Hongjun refused to share it and entered Chaos to confront them; Yang Mei explicitly avoided fighting within the Primordial Wilderness because their struggle could destroy it 246.

The ensuing battle ended in victory for the Primordial Wilderness over the otherworldly gods and demons. Hongjun relinquished the world, and Dijun and Taiyi prepared to follow him elsewhere. Dijun entrusted the ten little Golden Crows to Fuxi before leaving 248.

Without Hongjun united with it, the Heavenly Dao returned to the natural operation of heaven and earth rather than serving as a restraint upon living beings. Houtu could finally enter the land in her true body, and Fuxi passed the Human Emperor's position to Ji Xuanyuan 248.

Geography

Cosmology and Natural Laws

Pangu's Legacy

Part of Pangu Result
Left and right eyes Sun and moon 207
Blood vessels Rivers 207
Sinews and bones Mountains 207
Spine Buzhou Mountain 89 193
Breath Winds and clouds 207

Primordial Spirit Three Pure Ones 207
Essence blood Twelve Ancestral Witches 207
  • Earth Veins circulate Spiritual Energy through the land. Their damage impoverishes entire regions; their repair restores the conditions needed for living things to flourish 21.
  • Pangu's inheritors retain distinct responsibilities: the Witch Clan purifies baleful energy, the Three Pure Ones enlighten living beings, and Houtu completes the cycle of death and rebirth 195 215.
  • Pangu's Dao Fruit manifests through the operation of the world's Heavenly Dao laws. Control of the Heavenly Dao grants access to it, while fully refining it offers a route to the Great Dao Realm 246.

Heavenly Dao and Great Dao

  • Heavenly Dao: Maintains the stable operation of the Primordial Wilderness. Its jurisdiction extends over the created world, not Chaos 202 207.
  • Great Dao: Directly governs Chaos. It withdrew from immediate governance after creation, leaving the Heavenly Dao to administer the world 202 207.
  • Inherited fortune: The Heavenly Dao grants preferential fortune to Pangu's direct inheritors—the Three Pure Ones and Twelve Ancestral Witches. Descendants of the Chaos Green Lotus do not automatically receive the same treatment 207.
  • Hunyuan pressure: After five Hunyuan-level attainments, the Heavenly Dao tightened its laws against further breakthroughs. Xuande therefore left for Chaos to attain Hunyuan outside its jurisdiction 202 204.

Boundary with Chaos

  • The world's outer reaches have unstable spatial laws and almost no Spiritual Energy. An invisible barrier separates the ordered world from Chaos 204.
  • The barrier resembles a vast transparent net threaded with Heavenly Dao laws. It identifies entering beings through their karmic ties, admitting those connected to the world and rejecting those without such ties 209.
  • Attaining the Dao in Chaos can sever a cultivator's connection to the Primordial Wilderness. Xuande preserved his return route by leaving a Golden Body at Mount Sumeru to anchor his karmic bonds 204 209.
  • Chaos lacks the world's reliable direction and Spiritual Energy. Ordinary travelers must sustain themselves through their own magical power and risk becoming permanently lost 32.

Cultivation and Civilization

Shared Cultivation System

Order Common Realm
1 Earth Immortal 175
2 Heavenly Immortal 175
3 True Immortal 175
4 Mysterious Immortal 175
5 Golden Immortal 175
6 Primordial Unity Golden Immortal, also rendered Grand Unity Golden Immortal 2 175
7 Daluo Golden Immortal 175
  • These major realms are divided into early, middle, and late stages. Hongjun's sermons helped establish the system as a shared framework 175.
  • Before Sages emerged, Quasi-Saints represented the world's highest combat power; only several dozen leading figures had reached that level at the time of the Three Immortal Islands' exploration 99.
  • Form Transformation allows spiritual beings to acquire Dao bodies. Ordinary Demon Clan members can transform at Heavenly Immortal, but ancient bloodlines and inherited karmic duties can prevent transformation even at much higher realms 1 163 210.
  • The Western method of Severing the Seven Emotions and Six Desires offers advancement to Mid-Quasi-Saint without Innate Spiritual Treasures, drawing visitors from across the world 135 136.
  • Nuwa gives humanity paired cultivation systems: the Creation True Scripture for the Primordial Spirit and the Creation Body-Tempering Art for the body 175 176.

Knowledge, Writing, and Trade

  • Spiritual-root fusion: Xuande, Fuxi, Nuwa, Houtu, Zhenyuanzi, and Hong Yun create six identical array disks intended to make their combined fusion methods available to others 113.
  • Western Treasury Coins: Xuande introduces three denominations backed by the West's leaders. Circulation begins among disciples and expands as Western trade grows; world-wide adoption remains a future objective at that stage 143.
  • Scripts and languages: Western Sanskrit inspires the Witch Script, Demon Language, Simplified Dao Script, and Immortal Script. Their proclamations receive differing amounts of Heavenly Dao merit 147.
  • Human civilization: Fuxi teaches Bagua, record-keeping, fishing, hunting, and farming, while Western disciples teach writing, medicine, and cultivation. Cangjie later creates human writing as Xuande's reincarnated Obsession Corpse 240 246.
