Jieyin lived at Mount Sumeru in the impoverished West alongside his junior brother Zhunti. Following Devil Ancestor Rahula's destruction of the Western Ancestral Vein, he carried deep sorrow for the devastation of the land and its surviving beings. He regarded restoring the West as both a grave responsibility and a path toward merit and progress 5.

He and Zhunti were drawn to the aura of Xuande's former true form, expecting to find a fated spiritual treasure. Instead, they encountered Xuande after his Form Transformation. Jieyin quickly regained his composure, apologized for the misunderstanding, and cautiously sought to understand the newly born cultivator's origins 2.

After discussing the Dao beneath the Bodhi Tree, Jieyin recognized the potential of Xuande's Dao of Purity and Merit. He invited Xuande to remain in the West as an equal partner in repairing its Earth Veins, rather than as a disciple 5. Jieyin then helped organize the restoration effort, proposed inviting Zhenyuanzi and Hongyun for their respective expertise, and personally undertook the broad, patient work of sorting Earth Veins and clearing minor blockages with Zhunti 7 12.
