Background

Kimimaro was confined in the Kaguya Clan's dungeon from childhood and subjected to brutal killing training. Isolated from others, he viewed Kazama Kaguya—who regularly visited and spoke with him—as his sole source of warmth and trust. 1 2

During the Kaguya Clan's planned rebellion against Kirigakure, Kazama revealed his intention to defect and recruited Kimimaro into the Alliance. Kimimaro accepted immediately, finding a personal purpose beyond being used as a weapon. 2

The clan assigned Kimimaro to raid Kirigakure's civilian district and draw attention away from the attack on the Mizukage. Instead, he followed Kazama's instructions to locate Orochimaru, successfully delivering Kazama's offer and bringing Orochimaru to the escape point. 4 6

After leaving Kirigakure, Kimimaro signed the Ryūchi Cave Summoning Contract alongside Kazama. He later carried the physically failing Kazama during their flight toward Konoha and fought Kirigakure pursuers despite being outmatched by jōnin Itō Keisuke. 8 9 10

In Konoha, Kazama placed Kimimaro under Yakushi Nonō's care at the orphanage, asking Nonō to teach him medical ninjutsu and provide the stable upbringing he had never received. Danzō later identified Kimimaro as Kazama's most important bond and moved to use him to force Kazama's compliance. 20 43 57

Despite his inexperience, Kimimaro can be observant and considerate. He recognizes Kisame's hunger and offers him food during a tense negotiation, helping ease the situation without being prompted. 13

Kirigakure Pursuit

Kimimaro carries Kazama through the Land of Eddies and battles the Swordfish Chunin Squad alongside him. He is unable to overcome jōnin Itō Keisuke but continues trying to protect Kazama until Kisame intervenes. 9 10 11

Konoha Orphanage
