Background / History

Konoha was struck by the Nine-Tails' Rampage after Obito Uchiha turned against the village following Rin Nohara's death at Kannabi Bridge. Obito later infiltrated Kirigakure, controlled the Fourth Mizukage, and imposed the Blood Mist policy. 1

By Konoha Year 54, the village was still recovering from repeated wars and the Nine-Tails attack. Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi prioritized peace and recovery, while Shimura Danzō sought to exploit external threats and clan tensions to weaken Hiruzen's position. 16 17

The Kumogakure delegation's attempted kidnapping of Hinata Hyuga escalated into a diplomatic crisis. After Mōshibi was killed, Kumogakure demanded Hyuga Hiashi's body and threatened war; Danzō subsequently engineered a replacement of Hiashi with Hizashi Hyuga, using a skin mask to conceal Hizashi's Caged Bird seal. 18 19 23

Appearance

Konoha is a densely populated and prosperous village of shops, clan-owned businesses, civilian districts, and fortified clan compounds. Its northern skyline is dominated by the Hokage Rock, while a village-wide barrier monitors movement through its gates. 14 17

Barrier and Entry Policy

Konoha's barrier monitors pedestrians entering and leaving the village, with chakra above jōnin level drawing the attention of security forces and ANBU. 14

Individuals below jōnin level receive comparatively little scrutiny, as the village considers their destructive and intelligence-gathering potential limited. Kazama Kaguya and Kimimaro entered openly despite identifying themselves as rogue ninja. 14

Story Role / Major Arcs

Arrival of Kazama Kaguya

Kazama Kaguya chooses Konoha as the destination of his escape from Kirigakure because he needs Hyuga bloodline material to save himself. He and Kimimaro enter the village without challenge and begin searching for Danzō through Orochimaru's Root contact channel. 3 14 15

Kumogakure–Hyuga Crisis

Kumogakure uses peace negotiations as cover for an operation to abduct Hinata Hyuga and obtain the Byakugan. The plan fails, Mōshibi dies fighting Hiashi Hyuga, and Dodai uses the incident to pressure Konoha into surrendering Hiashi or facing war. 15 18 19

Danzō's Hyuga Scheme

Danzō uses the crisis to force the Hyuga toward a compromise. He incapacitates Hiashi, has Hizashi assume his identity through a skin mask, and receives Hizashi's loyalty after Hiashi is killed. Kazama receives Hiashi's Byakugan as payment for helping set the plan in motion under Orochimaru's name. 20 21 23

Forest of Death Conflict

Kazama flees into the Forest of Death to evolve after obtaining the Byakugan. Uchiha Shisui follows him, and the confrontation escalates into a battle involving Shisui's Susanoo, Kisame Hoshigaki, and Aburame Ryoma. 24 29 30

Border Investigation

Kazama's Storm Release training near the Takigakure border causes enough concern for Konoha to issue an S-rank investigation mission. Kurenai Yuhi, Asuma Sarutobi, Gekko Hayate, and Inuzuka Tsume witness his technique and abandon the mission after seeing its destructive power. 44 46 47

Danzō's Pursuit

After Kazama escapes, Danzō learns that Kimimaro remains at Yakushi Nonō's orphanage. He orders Kimimaro's capture, places a 35 million ryō bounty on Kazama, and intends to use Kimimaro to coerce Kazama into joining Root. 43

Kazama later decides to return and establish himself in Konoha, intending to exploit Danzō's invitation to acquire resources such as Uzushio sealing techniques and the forbidden techniques within the Scroll of Seals. 57
