History

Kazama initially regarded the Byakugan as the sole missing component needed to complete his 99%-charged evolution into a Pure-blooded Ōtsutsuki. Without it, the backlash from All-Killing Ash Bones left him in genetic collapse and with only months to live 1.

Kumogakure's peace delegation came to Konoha intending to seize the Hyuga Main Family's bloodline. Kazama exploited this crisis by posing as Orochimaru's representative and offering Danzō a plan to secure Hyuga support in exchange for the Main Family's Byakugan 15 16 20.

After Danzō incapacitated Hiashi and installed Hizashi as a disguised replacement, he gave Hiashi's Byakugan to Kazama 23. Kazama immediately fled to the Forest of Death, implanted the eye, and used it to complete the equation combining Shikotsumyaku and Byakugan 24. The resulting evolution cured his Bloodline Disease and transformed him into a Pure-blooded Ōtsutsuki Young Form 27 28.

Appearance

When activated, the Byakugan turns Kazama's irises pure white and causes veins around his eyes to bulge. During the earliest phase of his transformation, his left eye appeared more completely white than his right; by the time the evolution stabilized, both eyes had become Byakugan 26 27.

The Byakugan allows Kazama to identify chakra acupoints and use his guided techniques with precision.

• Storm Release: Nine Luminaries Bind uses Byakugan targeting to strike acupoints, suppress chakra flow, paralyze the target with lightning, and potentially destroy chakra circulation points through detonating light nails 45.
• Kazama used Nine Luminaries Bind to pin Kakuzu in place; the struck acupoints halted his chakra flow and dispersed an incoming Wind Release attack 50.
• Byakugan-guided Black Rods struck all seven chakra tails of Fū's Seven-Tails transformation, immobilizing the jinchūriki 55.

Evolutionary Catalyst

Within Kazama's Evolution Equation, the Byakugan is not merely an implanted eye but a required bloodline component for his Ōtsutsuki evolution.

• Combining Shikotsumyaku with Byakugan completed the equation that elevated Kazama into a Pure-blooded Ōtsutsuki Young Form 24 28.
• The completed evolution granted him the foundational Karma Seed and ended the genetic collapse caused by All-Killing Ash Bones 28.
