Background / History
Hong Jun was among the Demon God Reincarnations who sought newly born Innate Sacred beings to unite against Beast Emperor Shen Ni and the Ferocious Beast Clan. During the Ferocious Beast Calamity, he helped coordinate the campaign against Shen Ni and used the All Heavens Celebration Cloud to clear the calamity clouds so Heaven and Earth Thunder Punishment could strike the Beast Emperor 1 6.
After sensing Di Tian's emergence on Ziwei Emperor Star, Hong Jun approached him with Luo Hou under the pretext of recruiting him against Shen Ni. Privately, he regarded Di Tian as the legitimate ruler favored by Heaven and Earth and concluded that Di Tian had to die if the reincarnated Demon Gods and the Heavenly Dao were to control the Primordial World 2. Di Tian later accused Hong Jun of attempting to lure him away from Ziwei Emperor Star for an ambush 28.
Hong Jun established Purple Cloud Palace as the center of his Dao lineage. He taught the path toward Hunyuan, appointed figures such as Eastern Duke and Western Queen Mother, distributed Hongmeng Purple Qi, and bestowed major treasures on selected disciples and allies. These actions were repeatedly portrayed as efforts to secure loyalty, direct the cultivation paths of the Primordial World's powerful beings, and build a force capable of opposing Di Tian 79 124 128.
He announced that he would merge his body with the Dao to repair the incomplete Heavenly Dao, declaring that “Hong Jun is the Heavenly Dao, but the Heavenly Dao is not Hong Jun.” He also distributed his accumulated treasures, presenting these acts as a severing of karma with the Primordial World 128.
As the conflict escalated, Hong Jun invested heavily in Di Jun, Taiyi, Kun Peng, the Heavenly Dao Sages, and returning Demon God Reincarnations. His position weakened after repeated setbacks against Di Tian, distrust among his own allies, and the failure of several chosen pieces to meet his expectations 118 165 206.
During the struggle over the Kongtong Seal, Hong Jun fought Di Tian with the Chaos Bell and Hongmeng Measuring Ruler, but was driven into retreat by the Heaven Splitting Divine Axe. He survived by sacrificing part of his body and escaping through space-time 202. Later, anticipating possible defeat, he sent his Good Corpse, Evil Corpse, and Original Self Corpse into the Chaos Void to search for a world that could serve as an escape route 216.
After Di Tian revealed a vision of Hong Jun's future and offered him the choice of surrendering Heavenly Dao authority or fighting beyond the Chaos Heavens, Hong Jun chose to resist 251.
Personality
Hong Jun is calculating, patient, and highly conscious of power dynamics. He relies on indirect control—cultivation systems, treasures, Hongmeng Purple Qi, oaths, and political appointments—rather than simple force whenever possible 124 128 238.
He maintains an impartial, benevolent image before the masses, but his internal motives are repeatedly tied to control of the Primordial World and the removal of threats to his authority. He views many allies and disciples as expendable pieces, intending to compel them through contingencies hidden in Hongmeng Purple Qi during the decisive battle 128 238.
Under pressure, Hong Jun becomes increasingly desperate and volatile. His defeat by Di Tian, his allies' suspicions, and the collapse of his long-term plans provoke open fury, yet he retains enough resolve to choose a final confrontation despite expecting defeat 206 250 251.
