Background / History
Heavenly Emperor and the Witch-Demon War
As Heavenly Emperor, Dijun held a grand Heavenly Wedding with the Lunar Goddesses Xihe and Changxi. He arrived in a solar essence gold and lunar cold jade carriage drawn by nine divine dragons, wearing ceremonial robes and a sun crown amid Solar True Fire. The wedding’s merit elevated him to the late Quasi-Saint realm and strengthened the Demon Clan’s position 23.
The celebration immediately escalated the conflict with the Witch Clan into war. Dijun fought Dijiang during the battle at Buzhou Mountain, then suffered severe injuries when the Twelve Ancestral Witches summoned Pangu’s True Body phantom through the Twelve Capital Gods and Fiends Formation. Taiyi intercepted a second attack to protect him, sustaining critical wounds in the process 24 25. Dao Ancestor Hongjun ended the conflict by dispersing the phantom and ordering a thirty-thousand-year truce 26.
After the truce, Dijun and Taiyi pursued Old Ancestor Minghe over the stolen Primordial Violet Qi. Their Solar True Fire evaporated nearly thirty percent of the Netherworld Sea of Blood, while Minghe was repeatedly slain and reconstituted from the sea 51 52.
Human Race Massacre and the Witch-Slaying Sword
Seeking a weapon capable of overcoming the Witch Clan’s bodies, Dijun and Taiyi approved the use of Human Race essence and souls. The Demon Clan invaded Human settlements, slaughtered tribes, and collected their victims’ vital essence 55 56.
The harvested resentment, fiend qi, and death qi were forged into the Witch-Slaying Sword. When the weapon was completed, Dijun personally took it in hand; its murderous aura merged with his imperial majesty 61.
Fall and Reincarnation
During the later decisive Witch-Demon War, Dijun deployed the Stars of the Heavens Grand Array against the Witch Clan. The Array of the Heavens and Earth ultimately shattered the Demon Clan’s formation, leaving Dijun, Taiyi, Fuxi, and other leaders gravely injured 73 74.
Dijun later perished in the Witch-Demon Calamity, but a sliver of his remnant soul evaded destruction. It reincarnated as Di Yi, the future Human Emperor of Yin Shang, protected by the dynasty’s Human Dao Fortune 135 138.
Return as Di Yi
Dao Xuan discovered Dijun’s remnant soul while Di Yi was still an infant. His attempted assassination was blocked by the enormous Human Dao Fortune surrounding the newborn emperor; killing Di Yi would have provoked Heavenly Dao backlash and endangered Dao Xuan himself 135.
Dijun’s identity awakened during the North Sea rebellion. His Demon Emperor pressure caused reincarnated demon generals to recognize and kneel before him, while Jiu Ying defected from the rebel forces and purged Western Teachings agents. Dijun then declared his intention to unify the Human and Demon races, merge their fortunes, and seek sainthood 137.
Appearance
Dijun’s appearance emphasizes both imperial authority and Golden Crow lineage. In his original form’s human presentation, Solar True Fire surrounds him like a miniature sun; after reincarnating as Di Yi, he adopts the regalia and destiny of a Human Emperor 23 144.
- Jade-like face and star-bright eyes 23
- Sun crown and Heavenly Emperor ceremonial robes at his wedding 23
- Solar True Fire continuously flickering around his body 23
- Crimson-gold imperial robes after awakening as the Demon Emperor 137
- Black-and-gold dragon robe, Twelve-Beaded Flat Sky Crown, and Human Emperor Sword as Di Yi 144
- True form associated with the ancient three-legged Golden Crow 135 172
Personality
Dijun is intensely proud of his authority and legacy. His goal after reincarnation is not merely survival, but the restoration of Demon Clan dominance through the Human Emperor’s position and the fusion of Human and Demon fortunes 137.
He is ruthless in pursuing power. He sanctioned the slaughter of humans for the Witch-Slaying Sword and later ordered Jiang Huanchu and Jiang Wenhuan executed after reclaiming Eastern Lu 56 61 166. He can nevertheless be formal and courteous toward influential figures, as shown when he politely received Dao Xuan after the Heavenly Wedding 24.
His anger is a recurring weakness. Dao Xuan repeatedly provoked him into abandoning calculated strategy at Jizhou, while the Nine Yang Burning Heaven Great Array’s use of his dead sons’ remains drove him into grief and rage at Eastern Lu 144 164.
