Background / History

Shinnosuke belongs to the Kohinata, a small independent clan descended from the Hyūga. The clan was expelled from the Hyūga because its bloodline had become too diluted to reliably produce the Byakugan. Kohinata members without the dōjutsu are effectively treated as ordinary ninja, though they are also free from the Hyūga's main-branch and branch-family hierarchy and the Caged Bird seal. 35

Despite lacking the Byakugan, Shinnosuke developed exceptional Taijutsu and sensory abilities. He remained a Genin even though his chakra level and Taijutsu proficiency were judged to be at the Jōnin level. 43

He joined the newly formed Eleventh Reconnaissance Squad alongside Yuzuru, Might Duy, and captain Kiba Inuzuka. Shinnosuke and Yuzuru quickly bonded over their disadvantaged positions and shared close-combat specialization. 35 36
