Lan Mu began as a reporter assigned to investigate poaching in Fuzhou’s Fanli Mountain Scenic Area. After being attacked and thrown from a mountain, a white substance healed his broken body and transformed him into a White-haired Lion beastman. The form’s power exhilarated him, but its isolation, dependence on raw meat, and inability to return openly to society left him frightened of becoming a specimen or a permanent outcast 1.

After returning to human life, Lan Mu discovered that his disappearance had cost him his reporting job. Editor-in-Chief Liang used Lan Mu’s poaching evidence to advance a relative’s career while dismissing him for being absent without leave 12. Lan Mu and his friend Cheng Ming subsequently resigned from the newspaper industry 13.

His second transformation, an Elf-like humanoid, established that the White-haired Lion had not been a one-time anomaly.
