Contained Objects are phenomena, entities, locations, or items with supernatural properties that humanity cannot presently explain. They may be physical objects, living beings, electronic devices, or entire anomalous areas; Lan Mu estimates that roughly a thousand types exist worldwide 171.

CANC's philosophy holds that a Contained Object is not necessarily divine or inherently unknowable forever, but something beyond humanity's current understanding. As knowledge advances, many former “Contained Objects” are reclassified as technology or products of other worlds; only a small minority retain genuinely inexplicable, Root Algorithm-level properties 705 727.

Designation System

Containment organizations assign identifiers to documented objects. Known formats include Greek-letter designations such as α-7, γ-208, and Ω-590, alongside numerical labels such as 001 145 239 501 726.

Hazards and Limitations

• Side effects are common. Even useful artifacts frequently impose costs on users or bystanders; most are considered harmful to humanity despite their benefits 171.
• Effects can alter living beings. Eden Water enhances humans in small amounts but mutates animals that consume large quantities, especially reptiles 145.
• Some artifacts erode identity. The Helm of Domination allows control of Undead, but an Undead wearer or a wearer who dies loses their self-awareness as the helmet’s power increases 425.
• Containment does not always mean destruction. Certain objects cannot be destroyed, must remain in specialized confinement, or can only be controlled through an appropriate holder or countermeasure 308 647.
• The holder may be the primary danger. The Enslavement System allows its host to enslave targets through contact by the host or any slave, with enslaved people retaining their memories and personalities while becoming absolutely loyal 814.

Containment Doctrine

CANC and Hidden Dragon conceal the existence of Contained Objects from the public and operate to investigate, acquire, study, and contain them. Ordinary humans generally remain unaware of both the objects and the organizations managing them 171.

Testing may involve D-class personnel, whose survival depends on the object being studied; relatively harmless assignments such as testing the Gourmet Table have allowed some personnel to survive and even gain weight 426.

The Blue White Society later establishes a dedicated Contained Object Containment Unit after Lan Mu identifies object locations worldwide through his treasure sense 309.

Relationship with Lan Mu

Lan Mu is himself considered an uncontrollable Contained Object from a human perspective, though he conceals this fact from Fang Moqi 171.

During his Heroic Spirit transformation, every Contained Object he carried became a personal Treasure. Their normal functions and side effects changed into Magic Power consumption, while objects not on his person remained unaffected 367 368.

The Life Sphere can serve as a containment measure for fused or parasitic objects: after absorbing Dark Joshua’s life information, Lan Mu determines that the Kaleidoscope Power can be removed from the material world by leaving its transformation unused 647.

Origin Theories

The origin of Contained Objects remains unresolved. Lan Mu theorizes that 001 may oppose other Contained Objects and that their powers could originate from it 502.

Adonis offers a related interpretation: objects such as the Fantasy Right Hand and Fantasy Figure may demand creation from 001, forcing it to produce their effects rather than independently creating anything themselves 739.
