Background / History
CANC began in 1860 as a small, impoverished society of people interested in supernatural phenomena and environmental protection. Its founders pooled their funds to buy a Mediterranean island as headquarters, but the organization was nearly dissolved after the island was erased shortly after its establishment. In an alternate timeline, Lan Mu restored the island and joined the group, allowing it to continue. 719 720
Its early members regarded Contained Objects as errors of the universe: phenomena to be studied and contained rather than exploited. Adonis, CANC's Zero One, argued that humanity should rely on itself instead of using such objects for self-destructive ambitions. 720
Over the following century, CANC developed into a secret global power with wealth comparable to nations, assets exceeding Europe’s combined economic systems, and agreements with more than one hundred governments. It contained hundreds of supernatural entities while keeping public society outwardly rational and unaware of their existence. 57
By the Kuala Lumpur incident, CANC could directly assume control of local supernatural cases through presidential authorization. Bai Ze classified Lan Mu’s Nine-tailed Fox form as the provisional Beta-class threat Beta-953. 49
CANC later organized the International Space Group to resist the Zerg threat on the Moon and compelled international cooperation through technology sharing, pooled researchers, and containment agreements. 225 239 254
Its conflict with Lan Mu and the Blue White Society escalated after CANC purged Vampire infiltrators from the International Space Group and deployed Fantasy Weapons against them. CANC eventually evacuated its worldwide positions, rebuilt around Sea Star, expanded its Enlightener force, and made a final unsuccessful stand against the Blue White Society. 332 340 640 641
Doctrine
CANC’s central purpose was the protection of humanity through control of the unnatural. Its members viewed humans as the most “natural” beings and considered uncontrolled supernatural phenomena a threat to civilization. 57 157
“Contain, protect, control, and eliminate all existence that obstructs humanity's path.” 645
- CANC generally sought containment before destruction, reserving elimination for entities it judged necessary to remove. 49
- Internal misuse of a Contained Object for personal gain was treated as defection and punishable by death. 57
- The organization avoided openly ruling nations despite possessing the power to do so, instead negotiating secret agreements and operating behind the scenes. 57
- Its Principle Faction favored strict containment and long-term security, while its Realistic Faction favored practical use of Contained Objects. 58 157
- In later years, Joshua relaxed Enlightener-selection standards and other restrictions in an attempt to make CANC competitive with the Blue White Society. 640
Organization
Leadership
CANC’s four highest leaders were Enlighteners who could inherit leadership duties if another leader died. 296
| Designation | Identity / Responsibility |
|---|---|
| 03 | Themis — supreme leader overseeing Earth and the Space Group; described as being “everywhere.” 296 |
| 06 | Joshua — managed Oceania and Asia. 296 |
| 08 | Chaiwala — managed Europe and Africa. 296 |
| — | Duan — Chinese leader responsible for the Americas. 296 |
In CANC’s alternate-timeline founding period, the first Enlightener sequence consisted of Adonis as Zero One, Lan Mu as Zero Two, Enoch as Zero Three, and Alfred as Zero Four. 736
Field Forces
- Super Mobile Squad — CANC’s strongest armed force; its members could independently request Contained Object use and were permitted to “use first and report later.” 145
- Special Task Forces — containment teams deployed alongside Super Mobile Squads during major operations. 236 239
- Enlighteners / Omega Group — humans merged with Omega-class Contained Objects; they were CANC’s core strength and were often stationed on the Moon against the Zerg. 236
- D-class personnel — expendable personnel used for dangerous containment research and field experiments during CANC’s early expansion. 740
Facilities and Infrastructure
- Antarctic Base Camp — CANC’s principal base and a central site for the International Space Group. 252 296
- Deep Sea Great Prison — a prison built to contain a harmless but uncontrollable underwater pyramid. 157
- Lunar containment line — CANC’s Space Group held the Zerg on the far side of the Moon for decades. 226
- Anacortes containment site — a concealed base operating behind the Dahlia Fishery, guarded by disguised personnel using Neon Guns. 211
- Sea Star — selected by Joshua as CANC’s new main base after the organization’s mass evacuation. 340
CANC operated a separate Antarctic network inaccessible from Earth’s ordinary internet. Even Lan Mu’s Data Domination could not infiltrate its core systems, which were protected by a Contained Object described as godlike within the network. 314
Contained Objects and Technology
| Object | Classification / Designation | Documented function |
|---|---|---|
| Prophetic Diary | Alpha-7 | Answers questions written beneath a date in Japanese; information is forgotten by all known individuals after three minutes, at the cost of randomly losing one year of memory. 57 |
| Demon True Name | Alpha-37 | Summons an invisible demon that grants one request within its ability, then kills the requester; its possible destructive capacity made it a major deterrent. 57 |
| Fantasy Printer | Ω-590 | Produces weakened fantasy weapons based on fictional works, including weapons used against Vampire infiltrators. 239 332 |
| Fantasy Right Hand | — | An indestructible prosthetic that can reach into displayed films or animation and retrieve limited fantastical items. 322 |
| Blood of Years | Ω-169 | A hematopoietic stem cell that can grant one-person timeline travel once every three hundred days. 717 |
| Black Hole Express | — | Sends humans to black holes. 296 |
CANC’s aerospace capabilities surpassed those of any individual nation. Its known technologies included beam-based interstellar navigation, cryogenic hibernation, advanced nanomaterials, superconducting materials, and quantum computers. 314

Trivia
- CANC’s umbrella insignia was already in use during its 1860 founding period. 719
- The organization’s early public commitment to environmental protection was far ahead of its era and initially attracted little social support. 719
- CANC deliberately allowed information about the Demon True Name to circulate because its deterrent value was more useful than its secrecy. 213
