Background / History

Hongjun operates from Purple Heaven Palace as the Dao Ancestor behind the Heavenly Dao’s plans. During a ten-thousand-year period of chaotic fate, he encourages his disciples to contend for the Human Race’s fortune, intending to force variables—especially Chu Yan—back into predetermined “fixed numbers.” He offers Chu Yan a strand of Hongmeng Purple Qi and a prospective seventh seat beneath him, using Tongtian as the intermediary; the offer is intended as a means of control and a lure for other Great Powers to target the Human Race. 16 27

His efforts repeatedly encounter resistance from Pangu’s remaining influence. Pangu’s power freezes and injures Hongjun when he seeks Pangu’s Spinal Marrow, prevents him from taking the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation, and later contributes to the loss of his Demon God Foundation. 44 53 54 116

To preserve the Witch-Monster Tribulation, Hongjun reconstructs Di Jun and Eastern Emperor Taiyi using the flesh and blood of Yang Mei and Shi Chen. He secretly embeds control over their bodies during the reconstruction, later possessing them to force the Star Dou Great Array to continue operating when they attempt to dismantle it. 74 118 128 Yang Mei and Shi Chen eventually expose his manipulation to the Primordial World, leading the Great Dao to strike Hongjun and shatter his Dharma Body. 129

As his control over the Primordial World declines, Hongjun resorts to increasingly destructive measures: he tricks Chu Yan into breaking Buzhou Mountain, disrupts Cangjie’s Human Emperor ascension, and commands the Heavenly Dao Saint lineages to attack the Human Race after revealing his Demon God form. 137 206 208 His attempts to dominate the Human Race and direct successive Calamities repeatedly deepen his Karma, alienate his disciples, and drive him toward obsession. 211 372 376

Appearance

Hongjun commonly appears as an imposing Dao Ancestor seated within Purple Heaven Palace. Under pressure, he manifests his true Chaos Demon God form.

  • His true form is described as an Old Qu Shan of immense scale. 208 255
  • His Demon God aura is violent and oppressive, capable of surging beyond ordinary Saint-level power. 208 255
  • In combat, he has been wounded, dismembered, and restored, with blood rain falling across the Primordial World after severe injuries. 285

Personality

Hongjun is calculating, controlling, and highly persistent. He frames his schemes as protection of the Heavenly Dao’s general trend, but repeatedly manipulates disciples, races, and Chaos Demon Gods to preserve his own plans. 16 74 128 129

He is also deeply unwilling to accept setbacks. Losses to Chu Yan, Pangu’s influence, the Underworld, and the Human Race gradually turn his desire to control the Human Race into an obsession that threatens to make him fall into Mo. 131 372 When cornered, he can become openly enraged, reckless, and destructive—even willing to burn his own foundation or endanger the Primordial World. 255 256

Despite this, Hongjun later shows moments of self-awareness. He seeks Chu Yan’s explanation for his repeated defeats and acknowledges that Chu Yan’s calculations surpass his own. 357
