Background / History

Hongjun could neither see through Chu Yan nor deduce his origins when Chu Yan first disrupted the established General Trend. Chu Yan's questions and actions indicated knowledge of future events, making him an anomaly in Hongjun's calculations. 3

Chu Yan openly defied Hongjun's demand that he recognize Nuwa as the Holy Mother of humanity. He leaked Heavenly Mechanism, scattered Heavenly Dao merit, and endured Hongjun's World-Destroying Divine Thunder rather than submit. 7

After entering the Primordial World, he faced Taiqing and four other Saints over the Human Race Destiny. Tongtian protected him with the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation, and Chu Yan used Yuanshi Tianzun as a whetstone despite being severely wounded and apparently killed. 24 25

When forced toward Heavenly Dao sainthood, Chu Yan chose self-destruction rather than accept Hongjun's control. The sacrifice of himself and one hundred thousand Innate Humans denied the Heavenly Dao its intended gain and united the Human Race. 37 38 72

During the Witch–Yao conflict, Chu Yan fell into demonic possession and burned his Power Law, disrupting both the Star Dou Great Array and the Pangu True Body. Houtu rescued him after he collapsed; he later awoke with major losses in cultivation and no initial memory of his rampage. 88

He subsequently allied with Tongtian and Houtu against Hongjun's schemes. Chu Yan revealed knowledge of the Witch–Monster Tribulation, the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, and the intended decline of the Eastern Dao lineage, then helped arrange the rebirth of the eleven fallen Ancestor Witches. 111

Chu Yan planned the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors to address deficiencies in the Human Way, intending ultimately to awaken the Human Way and secure humanity's transcendence. 141 201 302

Personality

Chu Yan is uncompromising toward the Heavenly Dao, Hongjun, and any arrangement that would reduce humanity to a controlled asset. He would rather self-destruct than become a Heavenly Dao Saint and repeatedly treats death as an acceptable cost for the Human Race's autonomy. 38 218

He is an exceptionally long-term strategist. Rather than confronting the General Trend directly, he manipulates minor trends within it, exploits the rules of the Heavenly Dao and Great Dao, and prepares contingencies far in advance. 163 242 452

Chu Yan can be ruthless toward those he considers obstacles to humanity's future. During the Investiture of the Gods conflict, he regarded fearful or defecting Human Race inheritances as unworthy of the Human Way and intended to use war to reshape the Human Race. 396
