Background / History

Jieyin first appears in the devastated Western Lands after Rahula’s destruction. Alarmed by the ruined spiritual veins and thin spiritual energy, he proposes relocating east with Zhunti. Taiyuan persuades them to remain on Mount Sumeru and cultivate the West instead. Jieyin accepts this vision, interpreting Taiyuan’s resources and confidence as proof of a far-reaching plan for the Western Lands. 1

After seeing Taiyuan use precious Condensed Dew to aid Zhunti, Jieyin’s pessimism becomes absolute loyalty. He kneels and vows to take responsibility for every difficult task in the West so that no one can disrupt Taiyuan’s farming plan. 2 He subsequently competes with Zhunti in reclaiming spiritual fields and receives the Ruyi Hoe, a Houtian Merit Spiritual Treasure suited to sorting earth veins and cultivating land. 3

Over the following ten thousand years, Jieyin helps transform Mount Sumeru from a wasteland into a spiritual sanctuary. He tends the Twelve-Grade Golden Lotus of Merit, assists with the construction of the expanded Merit Pool, and manages major formation projects during Mount Sumeru’s later expansion. 4 24 47

He accompanies Taiyuan and Zhunti to Purple Heaven Palace, Buzhou Mountain, the East Sea, Huoyun Cave, and the Witch Race’s ancestral land. He is cautious and mindful of decorum even when threatened. When East King Duke obstructs the Western trio, Jieyin restrains Zhunti from acting rashly because he does not wish to give others grounds to criticize them—while quietly preparing his Prayer Beads for retaliation. 22 He is also capable of decisive courage, choosing to stand against Taotie rather than risk interrupting Taiyuan’s cultivation. 5
