Background / History

Origins and early cultivation

Nuwa and her elder brother Fuxi were born at Buzhou Mountain, where they cultivated together. When they encountered East King Duke and Queen Mother of the West, Fuxi invited the pair to their sanctuary; East King Duke immediately recognized Nuwa as the future Saint Mother of the Human Race. 23 43

After discussing the Dao with East King Duke and Queen Mother of the West for nearly ten thousand years, Nuwa and Fuxi both improved substantially. Nuwa nevertheless opposed Fuxi's plan to enter the Yao Race, sensing that its ambitions would bring grave danger. 45

Hongjun later named Nuwa a goddess of great fortune, accepted her as a personal disciple, and bestowed Primordial Violet Qi upon her—the foundation of her future sainthood. 70

Yao Race and Heavenly Court

Nuwa initially declined Di Jun and Tai Yi's invitation to join the Yao Race, preferring to pursue her own Dao. She later became the Wa Empress of the Heavenly Court, while Fuxi served as Xi Huang. 64 91

She acted as Di Jun's matchmaker in his proposal to Xi He, using eighteen Innate Spiritual Treasures as betrothal gifts. After Chang Xi refused to marry Di Jun, Nuwa accepted that Xi He alone could fulfill the Heavenly Marriage's destiny. 79

Nuwa presided over the Heavenly Wedding of Di Jun and Xi He with the Red Embroidered Ball. The ceremony's merit enabled her to sever her evil corpse and advance to the mid-Quasi-Saint stage. 82

Creation of the Human Race

Unable to find her Saint opportunity through seclusion, Nuwa traveled alone toward the East Sea. East King Duke advised her that, as a cultivator of the Dao of Creation, she should “create and evolve things”; this awakened her Primordial Violet Qi and revealed her path to sainthood. 96 97

Her first attempt—enlightening an immortal stone into a cultivator—did not create a genuinely new race. After she began molding figures in East King Duke's likeness, he provided Three Lights Divine Water and Nine Heavens Breathing Soil, the origins of water and earth. 97 98

Nuwa shaped the first humans from the fused materials, then created female humans in her own image after realizing that an all-male population could not reproduce. Using the Gourd Vine East King Duke had given her, she created hundreds of thousands more humans, though these later creations possessed weaker spiritual essence than the first three thousand. 58 98

The Human Race's birth brought down immense merit. Nuwa became a Heavenly Dao Saint and a Creation Saint, while the Human Race and East King Duke each received portions of the merit. 98

Saintly responsibilities and estrangement from humanity

Hongjun ordered Nuwa to establish her Saintly dojo in the Chaos and forbade her from becoming deeply involved in Primordial World conflicts. Before entering seclusion, she entrusted the Human Race to East King Duke and accepted Golden Phoenix as her disciple and mount. 99

Nuwa later created the Wa Empress Realm in the Chaos with the Red Embroidered Ball and Mountain and River Map. She lectured there on the Dao of Creation for one thousand years, then formally transferred the Beating Man Whip and the Human Race's care to East King Duke. 102

During the Witch–Yao conflict, Nuwa initially raged at the proposal to harvest human flesh and blood for the Witch-Slaying Sword. She ultimately permitted the Yao Race's actions after Fuxi argued that the Heavenly Court required the sacrifice. 115

When Azure Emperor devastated the Yao forces attacking humanity, Nuwa intervened to save the surviving demons with the Mountain and River Map, without addressing the Human Race's losses. This caused the humans' attitude toward their Saint Mother to turn cold. 120

Nuwa later regretted her choices toward humanity. Her and Fuxi's involvement with the Yao Race ultimately severed Fuxi's opportunity to become a Human Sovereign and cost Nuwa her Human Race Destiny. 124 163 235

After the Witch–Yao War

After the Yao Race's defeat, Nuwa relocated its remnants to Bei Julu Continent under Bai Ze's leadership and ordered them not to interfere in the Great Desolation's major affairs. She also used her Creation power to grant Lu Ya a Congenital Dao Body, then bestowed the Immortal Slaying Gourd upon him. 151

Nuwa attempted to revive Fuxi using her Saintly Creation power, but his remaining true spirit could not regain consciousness. Concluding that reincarnation was his only path, she sought East King Duke's aid in securing his future. 151 156

When Nuwa later encountered the Human cultivator Sir Luo, she recognized him as her reincarnated brother and addressed him as such. 235

Investiture of the Gods

After King Zhou's lewd poem profaned her statue at Nuwa Temple, Nuwa discovered that Zhunti had caused the poem to reappear. She did not kill King Zhou because his Human Emperor Destiny and the Heavenly Dao's will protected him from premature death. 194

Following Heaven's will, Nuwa used the Monster Summoning Banner to summon the Thousand-Year Fox Spirit, Nine-Headed Pheasant Spirit, and Jade Pipa Spirit. She ordered them to infiltrate Chaoge's royal palace and hasten the Shang Dynasty's fall, while explicitly forbidding them from harming innocents. 195

Appearance

Nuwa is renowned for sacred, pure beauty. After attaining sainthood, her presence carries a profound intent of creation and a Primordial Origin aura so imposing that other cultivators hesitate to look directly at her. 43 102

  • Sacred and pure demeanor distinct from other Innate Goddesses. 43
  • Peerless Saintly bearing amid the Chaos. 102
  • Often travels using the Mountain and River Map. 96
  • Rides Golden Phoenix as a mount. 99

Personality

Nuwa is independent and devoted to cultivation. She refused the Yao Race's initial invitation because she wished to focus on her Dao, and she repeatedly warned Fuxi that the Yao Race's plans seemed perilous. 45 64

She is curious and receptive to insight, remaining behind to question East King Duke about the Gourd Vine and Nine Heavens Breathing Soil when her Primordial Spirit sensed their relevance to her destiny. 58

Nuwa treats East King Duke as an equal even after becoming a Saint, crediting their long friendship and his role in her ascension. 98 101

Her attachment to both the Yao Race and humanity leaves her conflicted. She considered humans like her children, yet allowed their sacrifice for the Yao Race and later prioritized demon survivors over them; afterward, she came to regret these decisions. 115 120 124
