Background / History
Kong Xuan is a direct child of Primordial Phoenix and carries the karmic debt accumulated by the Phoenix Clan during the Dragon-Phoenix Tribulation. Although he possesses Innate Five Elements Origin and formidable natural talent, this inherited karma leaves him trapped at the peak of the Primordial Unity Golden Immortal realm for countless years. 39
He first confronts Donghua after attacking him with Five Elements divine power. Donghua effortlessly suppresses the rampaging Five Elements Origin within him, rejects Kong Xuan's willingness to die for his resolve, and identifies the bottleneck in his cultivation. Humbled, Kong Xuan seeks Donghua's guidance. 38 39
Donghua accepts Kong Xuan as a disciple after requiring him to protect his original heart and uphold Heaven and Earth. Through Donghua's explanation of Five Elements generation and overcoming, Kong Xuan brings his previously turbulent Five-Colored Divine Light into a harmonious cycle and creates a new divine ability. 41
To remove Kong Xuan's karmic burden, Donghua brings him to the far north to purify the lingering malevolent energy and Fierce Beast remains. Kong Xuan uses the Nine-Petaled Pure World White Lotus and Five-Colored Divine Light in the effort, receiving a share of the resulting heavenly Merit. The Merit dissolves his karma and enables his breakthrough into the Great Luo realm. 51 53 56
After reaching Great Luo, Kong Xuan tests his abilities in the East Sea against the Dragon Clan. He withstands a combined attack by seven Dragon Clan Great Luos, suppresses the Sea Calming Seal, and later works with Ao Guang against the covetous purple-robed Daoist, Xuan You. 63 67
Donghua later orders him to remain near the East Sea to consolidate his Five Elements Great Dao and seek opportunities independently. 84 When the Phoenix Clan is devastated in the Southern Wasteland, Kong Xuan answers Donghua's summons, heals the scarred land with five-colored divine light, and accepts responsibility for the surviving clan members. 100 A century later, he formally assumes leadership of the Phoenix Clan and receives the Phoenix Scepter. 101

His pride is tempered by genuine recognition of superior strength and wisdom. After Donghua reveals the cause of his stagnation, Kong Xuan sincerely seeks instruction, becomes a devoted disciple, and repeatedly shows reverence for his master. 39 56 67
He is also capable of restraint and responsibility. Rather than immediately retaliating against Xuan You after the East Sea conflict, he declares that he will seek a future rematch once he has advanced further.
