Background / History

The World Government emerged from the alliance of twenty nations that won the war ending the vanished century. Nineteen of those royal families relocated to Mary Geoise and became the Celestial Dragons; the Alabasta royal family alone did not ascend. The resulting regime has ruled under the Celestial Dragons’ authority for roughly seven centuries. 419

Its leadership erased the history of the Void Century and continues to suppress research that could expose it. Ohara was destroyed after its scholars investigated forbidden history, while official accounts later reduced the island to a warning against archaeologists. 372 429 521 522

Mary Geoise functions as the Government’s center and the Celestial Dragons’ seat. The Government’s priority there is the security of the World Nobles, with CP0 and other guards protecting them during crises. 3 412 602

• Celestial Gold collection — Affiliated nations are required to supply gold to Mary Geoise. The Government treats shortfalls as a serious offense and raised levies on New World members before withdrawing its military presence there. 133 354
