Background / History

Kaido was formerly a member of the Rocks Pirates. When that crew disbanded, Big Mom gave him the Mythical Zoan Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon 254 554.

After the Rocks Pirates’ collapse, Kaido continued to improve his strength and gradually became one of the New World’s dominant pirates 271. He established the Beasts Pirates, recruited defeated opponents rather than discarding them, and pursued scientific means of expanding his forces, including experiments related to Ancient Giants and Artificial Devil Fruits 249.

Kaido entered Wano Country through cooperation with Kurozumi Orochi rather than attempting to conquer its samurai outright. With Kaido’s support, Orochi became General, while Kaido turned Wano into an arms-producing base built on prison labor, forced manufacturing, and environmental ruin 200 253 294. Kozuki Oden was ultimately defeated and killed under Kaido’s rule 200.

Appearance

Kaido is an enormous, heavily built horned man, described as half a head taller than Whitebeard. His body bears dragon-like traits even in human form, including a dragon-scale tattoo and prominent horns 268 292.

Though outwardly erratic, drunken, and violent, Kaido is a calculating warlord. He deliberately maintains extreme inequality in Wano so that desperate citizens will see defection to the Beasts Pirates as an improvement 430. He also keeps Yamato close through force and surveillance while intending to make him Wano’s General on Kaido’s terms 285 430.
