Background

The Five Great Shinobi Villages formed the dominant order of the Ninja World, with Konohagakure described as the foremost among them. Their rise did not end the cycle of conflict: after Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara died, war again spread throughout the world, and the major villages later entered a brief peace following the Second Great Ninja War 1.

Their shared interest in preserving the one-village, one-country system made the emergence of Hyuga Shin's Spark Organization—and later the Nether Ninja Village—an existential threat. The Five villages treated a sixth major village and its ideology of Ninja World unification as a challenge to the established balance of power 91 106.

Conflict with the Nether Ninja Village

Hunt for the Spark Organization

After declaring a ceasefire among themselves, the Five Great Shinobi Villages promoted a prophecy branding the Spark Organization a danger to the Chakra system and dispatched elite squads to hunt it down 92. Their assassination teams were intercepted and captured in the Land of Grass, after which the newly renamed Nether Ninja Village demanded an apology and recognition as the Sixth Great Shinobi Village 95.

First Allied War

The Five villages formally declared war on the Nether Ninja Village, accusing it of disrupting the Ninja World's balance, controlling the Land of Grass's Daimyo, and challenging the one-village, one-country order 106.

The Five Kage ultimately reunited after receiving Nether Ninja Village surrender demands. They assessed their combined Kage-level strength, prepared hidden assets, and declared war once again 284.

The Nether Ninja Village answered by splitting its army into five simultaneous offensives, preventing the villages from reinforcing one another effectively 284 285.
