Background / History

Abaddon is the Warmaster of Chaos and commander of the Black Legion. He is renowned across the galaxy for his many campaigns against the Imperium, including thirteen Black Crusades; despite the first twelve being described as failures, those wars steadily eroded Imperial strength and contributed to the later catastrophe at Cadia. His long-term strategy is to exhaust the Imperium until it collapses internally rather than destroy it in a single direct assault. 236 764

He is regarded as a uniquely valuable pawn of the Four Gods after Horus. His authority over the Black Legion rests on his personal strength, battlefield record, the prestige of Chaos, and his ability to buy other Chaos warbands’ cooperation with weapons, ships, troops, and gene-seed. 762 777
