Background / History

Kenjaku is a thousand-year-old curse user whose longevity comes from repeatedly possessing new bodies, rather than Tengen’s Immortality Technique. His past hosts include a Kamo Clan patriarch and Kaori Itadori, Yuji Itadori’s mother 35 44 47.

Over the centuries, he accumulated resources, established an intelligence network reaching Jujutsu Society’s leadership, and contracted with ancient sorcerers who wanted to return to life. Those agreements promised future resurrection in exchange for their assistance 46 50 113.

His larger objective is the optimization of cursed energy and humanity’s evolution. Mitsuki initially identifies a prospective plan to merge humanity with Tengen, requiring Tengen’s transformation into a cursed spirit and access to Geto’s Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Kenjaku ultimately pursues a different opportunity: using Mitsuki’s nationwide barrier to create a super cursed spirit from the population’s cursed energy 43 95 113.

Appearance

  • Hospital ambush host: A middle-aged man with a faint line of forehead stitches partly hidden by hanging bangs 47.
  • Original body: A pale, twisted brain that emerges from an opened host skull when he activates possession 50.
  • Yuanyuan form: Kanon’s goldfish shikigami, capable of swimming through the air 86.
  • Kanon’s body: Retains her outward appearance, but her former sweetness is replaced by Kenjaku’s expression of false benevolence 100.
  • Leviathan: An enormous dragon-like form with hard, glossy black scales. His size and emphasis on defense make his movements sluggish 112 117.

Personality

Kenjaku is patient, calculating, and willing to abandon immediate victories for a longer-term advantage. After becoming trapped as a shikigami, he considers waiting another five hundred years rather than forcing a hopeless confrontation. He later deliberately loses to Geto so that absorption can give him access to Geto’s technique and stored cursed spirits 87 112.

His apparent kindness is instrumental. He approaches Kanon as a protector while intending to possess her, then coaches and emotionally manipulates her to secure his own survival. He dismisses her friendships when Geto confronts him over her exploitation 50 86 87 106.

Kenjaku values uncertainty and experimentation over safety. He regards a world without slaughter or curses as intolerably boring, treating humans, sorcerers, and cursed spirits as different forms of cursed energy. His desired outcome is chaos exceeding even his own ability to control it 95 116.

Despite his arrogance toward younger opponents, he can recognize overwhelming danger. He initially discounts Mitsuki because of his familiarity with Blood Manipulation, but later warns Jogo that their entire alliance would die if it challenged Mitsuki directly. At death, he accepts Mitsuki as a satisfying final opponent while maintaining that his creation leaves their contest unresolved 47 100 117.

Abilities & Skills

Parasitic Possession

Kenjaku’s original innate technique allows him to change bodies and possess hosts, sustaining his life across centuries 35 50.

  • His original brain carries the engraved technique and serves as his true body 50 86.
  • Before the Asteroid binding vow, he can use techniques acquired from previous hosts 49 50.
  • Possessing a being made entirely of cursed energy is initially an untested gamble; he succeeds with Kanon’s goldfish shikigami 86.
  • The disappearance of his brain after that transfer makes the parasitic technique unusable 86.

Gravity Manipulation

In his hospital ambush host, Kenjaku controls gravity to crush structures, destroy cursed spirits, and redirect attacks 47 48.

  • Instantly collapses the hospital and exorcises the fake Prison Realm spirit 47.
  • Turns a flame attack back toward Geto and distorts a giant cursed spirit’s body 47 48.
  • Initially displays a thirty-meter field, then expands it to fifty meters when attempting to escape 48.
  • Maximum Technique: Asteroid summons an enormous meteorite, forcing opponents to choose between pursuing him and saving the city 49.
  • Permanently loses access to Gravity Manipulation and his other acquired host techniques after the associated binding vow 50.

Water Techniques

After becoming Kanon’s shikigami, Kenjaku uses water-based techniques for offense, defense, and movement 94 106 107.

  • Piercing Water Slash: A powerful jet that bisects a cursed spirit and gouges Mitsuki’s barrier; its high energy consumption exhausts Kanon’s remaining reserves 94.
  • Water wall: Disperses much of Geto’s sword strike and blocks attacks from Inugami and Nekomata 106.
  • Water clones, spear, and dragon: Used against Geto’s coordinated assault 107.
  • Water-current movement: Carries him out of the path of an incoming slash 107.

Domain Expansion: Endless Abyss

Endless Abyss engulfs Geto and his spirits in a dark environment where sea creatures attack them 107.

  • Singles out and exorcises Tamamo-no-Mae, whose domain had been suppressing Kenjaku 107.
  • Forces Geto, Inugami, and Nekomata into a struggle for survival 107.
  • Is not a sure-kill domain, leaving Geto time to counterattack 108.
  • Collapses under the combined pressure of five opposing domains. Kenjaku’s subsequent Simple Domain also fails 108.

Barrier Expertise

Kenjaku combines selective barrier construction with detailed analysis of other sorcerers’ systems 47 93 94.

  • Places a Curtain around Geto’s existing Curtain that specifically prevents Geto from entering or leaving, while allowing others through 47.
  • Deduces the Hive Barrier’s cursed-energy recycling and cursed-spirit containment functions from subtle traces and a test attack 93 94.
  • Identifies Sukuna’s Finger as its likely power source and calculates that the system could cover Japan 94 95.
  • Activates contingencies in ten Sukuna’s Fingers to seize control of Mitsuki’s completed super barrier 112.
  • Rewrites it to extract cursed energy from ordinary people. The extraction cannot overcome sorcerers or cursed spirits capable of controlling their own energy 112.

Soul Binding Vow and Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Kenjaku survives Geto’s absorption by strengthening his soul through a binding vow 112.

  • Gives up all future reincarnation and access to the cycle of rebirth in exchange for greater soul strength 112.
  • Preserves his independent consciousness, preventing complete subjugation by Cursed Spirit Manipulation 112.
  • Exploits the resulting contract to gain partial access to Geto’s technique and influence his actions, stopping him from using Uzumaki to finish Kenjaku 108 112.
  • Uses Maximum: Uzumaki within Geto’s storage space to devour the other cursed spirits and increase his strength 112.
  • Abandons a full takeover of Geto’s body because Geto’s powerful will creates an unacceptable risk of backlash 112.

Shikigami Autonomy and Leviathan Form

As Yuanyuan, Kenjaku possesses more independence than an ordinary shikigami, but remains subject to his connection with Kanon 86.

  • Generates his own cursed energy and can act outside her direct control, though he cannot travel too far from her 86.
  • Communicates with Kanon telepathically and teaches her to use her technique without summoning him 86 93.
  • Can be killed by Kanon’s command if her will is strong enough 86.
  • Initially predicts that devouring her would free him but leave him only as strong as a Grade 3 cursed spirit; he therefore postpones it while training her 86.
  • His later Leviathan form maximizes defense at the expense of mobility and offensive options beyond physical attacks 116 117.

Relationships

  • Kamo Mitsuki — Principal enemy and ideological opposite. Mitsuki repeatedly draws him out with traps; Kenjaku hijacks Mitsuki’s super barrier before dying to his Divine Punishment Trident 46 49 112 115 117.
  • Kanon — Shikigami master, pupil, and eventual incarnation vessel. She believes he is still Yuanyuan until his extraction and her recovery reveal his deception 86 100 108 111.
  • Suguru Geto — Enemy whose Cursed Spirit Manipulation is central to Kenjaku’s plans. Kenjaku exploits Geto’s absorption technique but fails to take over his body completely 43 108 112.
  • Satoru Gojo — A major obstacle because of the Six Eyes. Kenjaku intends to seal him with the Prison Realm rather than confront him directly 47 87.
  • Tengen — Central to the earlier humanity-merger scheme. Mitsuki’s successful replacement-vessel assimilation removes the anticipated opening 43 87.
  • Ryomen Sukuna — Resurrected as a powerful defender intended to keep Special Grade Sorcerers away from the super cursed womb 113.
  • Yuji Itadori — Vessel painstakingly prepared to contain Sukuna. Mitsuki’s research links his unusual constitution to a incorporated Sukuna Finger, his father’s origins, and Kenjaku’s Death Painting research 76 88.
  • Kaori Itadori — Former host and Yuji’s mother; disappears before Mitsuki begins the fake Prison Realm operation 44.
  • Yorozu — Contracted ancient sorcerer. Her death and the loss of the Finger at Yasohachi Bridge alert Kenjaku to Mitsuki’s collection efforts 86.
  • Mahito and Jogo — Allied special grade cursed spirits. Mahito agrees to cooperate after fighting Mitsuki’s puppets; Kenjaku warns Jogo against challenging their creator 100.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Fake Prison Realm Ambush

Mitsuki creates a puppet cursed spirit imitating the Prison Realm and uses Geto as bait. Drawn by the prospect of obtaining both the sealing object and Cursed Spirit Manipulation, Kenjaku attacks the Iwate hospital 44 46 47.

Geto stalls him until Mitsuki and Gojo arrive. Kenjaku recognizes the trap, attempts to flee, and finally calls down Asteroid to divert the three sorcerers into disaster prevention. Mitsuki plants a Blood Thread Worm in him before they redirect the meteorite into the sea 48 49.

The escape costs Kenjaku his acquired techniques. His attempt to possess Kanon instead leaves him trapped in her goldfish shikigami, and the subsequent search fails to locate him. Mitsuki’s group also removes most of his higher-up agents, reducing his information network 50 51 86.

Life as Yuanyuan

Kenjaku trains Kanon while seeking a route back to freedom. At Yasohachi Bridge, he discovers evidence of Yorozu’s death and suspects Mitsuki is collecting Sukuna’s Fingers. He then encourages Kanon to attend Jujutsu High so he can approach Mitsuki and investigate 86 87.

The school’s barrier exercises reveal the scale of Mitsuki’s plan. Realizing that nationwide containment could end cursed spirits’ ability to threaten society, Kenjaku abandons his leisurely timetable and accelerates his escape. He later incarnates in Kanon and recruits special grade cursed spirits against Mitsuki 90 93 94 95 100.

Geto’s Apparent Victory

Kenjaku uses threats and inducements to turn senior government officials against the Time Vessel Association, then confronts Geto after the resulting attack. Their battle ends with Kenjaku’s domain overwhelmed and his true form extracted from Kanon 105 106 107 108 112.

Geto absorbs him intending to use Uzumaki to extract his technique and kill him. Kenjaku instead preserves his consciousness, interferes with that final step, and secretly consumes Geto’s stored cursed spirits. His apparent defeat becomes the route to his Leviathan transformation 108 112.

Super Barrier Hijacking and Death

When Mitsuki activates the nationwide super barrier, Kenjaku emerges as Leviathan and takes control through the ten Fingers he has tampered with. He converts the protective system into a cursed-energy extraction network, causing ordinary people across Japan to collapse and feeding an enormous cursed womb 112.

He resurrects contracted ancient sorcerers to spread chaos and restores Sukuna to occupy the strongest defenders. Once the Fingers’ energy converges into Yuji, the super barrier itself collapses. Mitsuki reveals that he continued the project despite anticipating sabotage because it would draw Kenjaku into the open 113 115.

Kenjaku tries to survive long enough to witness the womb’s creation. When the Blood God begins adapting to its immunity, he attempts to intervene, but Mitsuki pins him with three positive-energy tridents. His body loses its vitality and dissolves into dust before the womb hatches 116 117.
