Background / History
Geto comes from an ordinary background rather than one of the great sorcerer families. His original motivation was personal: when a monster entered the home of a kindly elderly couple living nearby, his desire to protect them awakened his innate technique and set him on the path of a jujutsu sorcerer 30 42.
Repeatedly saving people complicated that conviction. Some of those he rescued reformed, while others continued harming innocent people. Unable to reconcile this with his duty, he began questioning whether sorcerers should risk their lives for all non-sorcerers, using the principle that “sorcerers exist to protect non-sorcerers” to suppress his doubts 42.
At Jujutsu High, he studied under Masamichi Yaga alongside Gojo, Shoko, and Mitsuki. Mitsuki removed the nauseating taste associated with absorbing cursed spirits, and the survival of Riko Amanai and Yu Haibara spared Geto further losses. By the Hakone mission, these changes had left him more peaceful and emotionally stable, although his doubts about humanity remained unresolved 11 39.
Appearance
Geto is tall and slender, with deep-set eyes and a slightly pale face. Most descriptions give him black hair with loose or side-swept bangs 19 40.
- Hair bun: Loosens part of his bun when accepting the role of religious leader, deliberately adopting a more relaxed appearance 34.
- Black clothing: Appears in black basketball clothes at school and long black robes during the Star Plasma Vessel mission 19 23.
- Distinctive bangs: Recognizable enough that Nanako calls him “Uncle Bangs” 42.
Personality
Geto is protective, conscientious, and attentive to others’ emotional needs. He worries about Gojo’s exhaustion during Riko’s protection mission, gives Shoko and the girls time to recover after their rescue, and cares for Nanako and Mimiko through ordinary acts such as braiding their hair. He later encourages the sisters to attend Jujutsu High and pursue independent futures rather than spend their lives repaying him 22 43 62 89.
His kindness coexists with a capacity for severe violence. The Hakone investigation brings him close to despair over human cruelty, but the sisters’ refusal to seek revenge restores his conviction that innocent people deserve protection. He rejects condemning humanity as a whole, while remaining willing to kill those he considers irredeemably malicious. The slaughter of his congregation later provokes him into killing the attacking soldiers 40 42 105.
He also enjoys competition and teasing, particularly with Gojo. Removing the burden of swallowing foul-tasting spirits makes him noticeably more cheerful and eager to fight. In serious combat, however, he remains patient enough to ignore provocation, conceal his movements, and wait for reinforcements rather than gamble on an ineffective frontal attack 11 12 48 59.
Abilities & Skills
Cursed Spirit Manipulation
Geto converts cursed spirits into small spheres, swallows them, and summons them from storage to fight or perform other tasks 11.
- Broad tactical coverage: His collection supplies offensive attacks, aerial transport, restraint, investigation, and specialized support 22 39 40 48.
- Emotional and memory perception: Can perceive a spirit’s emotions and even memories after exorcising it 40.
- Attrition warfare: Uses successive waves to probe an enemy’s technique, consume cursed energy, obscure his position, and divide attention 48 106.
- Replenishable troops: The Centipede King, Ant Queen, and Skeleton King summon expendable minions, allowing him to preserve the parent spirits 106.
- Puppet compatibility: Can absorb Mitsuki’s artificial cursed spirits and recall completed cursed-spirit-type puppets without disrupting their functions 43 64.
- Control limitations: Ordinary spirits largely act on instinct and accept only simple instructions. Mitsuki’s humanoid puppets overcome this limitation 63 65.
- Absorption restriction: Spirits bound to another master cannot be absorbed freely; this initially complicates Mitsuki’s puppet design 64.
Notable Controlled Cursed Spirits
| Spirit | Documented use |
|---|---|
| Flying cursed spirits | Transport Geto, attack airborne targets, and launch attacks from above 17 39 48. |
| Butterfly cursed spirit | Makes people unknowingly reveal their hidden nature and secrets; used on the village chief and his wife 40. |
| Fish-shaped cursed spirit | Fires three water jets to counter incoming flames 48. |
| Centipede King, Ant Queen, Skeleton King | Produce expendable minions for sustained numerical pressure 106. |
| Inugami | Special Grade imaginary cursed spirit; fights alongside Geto with claws and fangs and helps destroy Kenjaku’s water clones 106 107. |
| Nekomata | Special Grade imaginary cursed spirit; coordinates pincer attacks and fights Kenjaku’s armed water clones 106 107. |
| Yoto Hime | Special Grade imaginary cursed spirit; becomes a cursed blade, manifests a giant true form, and shields Geto inside her body 107 108. |
| Tamamo-no-Mae Incarnate | Creates a mist-filled domain containing fox statues, reinforcing Geto and his spirits while suppressing Kenjaku 106 107. |
| Smallpox Deity | Deploys Black Coffin as part of the combined domain attack against Kenjaku 108. |
Kenjaku ultimately removes Geto’s entire stored collection during his emergence 115.
Maximum Technique: Uzumaki
Uzumaki combines absorbed cursed spirits into a concentrated mass for an extremely dense cursed-energy attack 108.
- Technique extraction: Using a single spirit of Semi-Grade 1 or higher allows Geto to extract its cursed technique 108.
- Abilities retained after losing his collection: Previously extracted techniques remain available after Kenjaku strips away his spirits; their individual names are not specified 116.
- Failed execution against Kenjaku: Geto intends to use Uzumaki to extract Kenjaku’s technique and destroy him, but Kenjaku influences his actions before he can complete it 108 112.
Domain Expansion
Geto has mastered Womb Profusion. Against Kenjaku, he combines his domain with those of his controlled Special Grade spirits rather than relying on a single expansion 108.
- Five-domain assault: Womb Profusion, Fanged Boundary, Spirit Cat’s Absolute Realm, Dancing Princess’s Blade Soul Realm, and Black Coffin collectively overwhelm Endless Abyss 108.
- Follow-up pressure: After Kenjaku’s domain breaks, the cursed-spirit assault also destroys his Simple Domain 108.
- Time to respond: Endless Abyss is not a sure-kill domain, allowing Geto to deploy his counterattack while protected by Yoto Hime 108.
Hand-to-Hand and Weapon Combat
Geto enjoys close combat despite the early disadvantage imposed by his technique’s reliance on summoned spirits 12.
- Unarmed sparring: Teams up with Gojo under Mitsuki’s pressure during their three-way match, though Shoko judges Mitsuki the winner 13.
- Coordinated melee: Fights with Yoto Hime’s blade while Inugami and Nekomata attack from other directions 106 107.
- Cursed Blade Release: Demon Princess’s True Form: Manifests a gigantic Yoto Hime whose slash mirrors his own, forcing Kenjaku to expend substantial cursed energy blocking it 107.
- Late-stage proficiency: His finely honed physical combat skills help preserve his Special Grade fighting ability after the loss of his spirits 116.
Reverse Cursed Technique
Geto initially cannot understand Shoko’s explanation of Reverse Cursed Technique. Later, he uses it to heal himself and exchanges insights with her to improve his proficiency 12 105 115.
- Self-healing: Repairs a wound inflicted by Kenjaku and subsequently recovers from the devastating damage caused by Kenjaku’s emergence 105 115.
- Continuity discrepancy: Chapter 105 already shows him using the technique, whereas Chapter 115 presents his near-death recovery as the moment he first grasps it.
Leadership and Religious Administration
Geto repurposes the Time Vessel Association into a religion that teaches the public about jujutsu, revising its doctrines to remove greed and harmful teachings 43.
- Charisma: Wins followers while preserving the association’s religious mystique 43.
- Nationwide reach: Its branches provide access to unusual and Special Grade cursed spirits across Japan 106.
- Public service: Personally handles large numbers of visitors seeking help with curses 57 59 62.
- Delegation: Uses autonomous cursed-spirit puppets to address the organization’s shortage of attendants 62 65.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Spirit-Slaying Sword — Changes into a three-section staff suited to Geto’s constitution. Made from pure positive energy and incorporating Blood Manipulation and Idle Transfiguration, it damages cursed spirits and souls directly; its wounds cannot be repaired through Reverse Cursed Technique or similar methods 116.
- Yoto Hime’s cursed blade — Equivalent to a Special Grade Cursed Tool. Fires an energy slash and supports Demon Princess’s True Form 107.
- Kamo Pills — Supplied by Mitsuki to turn suitable controlled spirits into humanoid workers. Chapter 65 describes the applicable grade limit inconsistently as both “Grade 3-or-lower” and “below Grade 3” 65.
- Grade 1 signal puppet cursed spirit — Absorbed and successfully resummoned during testing. Its destruction alerts Mitsuki during the Kenjaku ambush 43 48.
- Prison Realm puppet cursed spirit — An artificial spirit modeled on the Prison Realm, absorbed by Geto for the plan to lure Kenjaku 46.
- Two Sukuna’s Fingers — Delivered to him by Mitsuki’s masked subordinates shortly before the association is attacked 105.
Relationships
- Kamo Mitsuki — Classmate, reform partner, and trusted supporter. Removes the taste burden of Cursed Spirit Manipulation, helps Geto confront his moral doubts, and supplies protective and labor-saving puppets 11 34 40 43 65.
- Satoru Gojo — Close friend, fellow Special Grade, and competitive sparring partner. They protect Riko together, argue over sorcerers’ responsibilities, and discuss Gojo’s frustration with his own progress 19 22 59.
- Shoko Ieiri — Classmate and partner in running the association and caring for the girls. Geto helps rescue her from the catfish curse; she later examines him after his near-fatal injury and shares healing insights 34 43 61 115.
- Nanako Hasaba and Mimiko Hasaba — Rescued children under his guardianship. Their rejection of revenge restores his original purpose, and he supports their education and independence 42 43 89.
- Riko Amanai and Misato Kuroi — People under his protection during the Star Plasma Vessel mission. He announces that Riko no longer needs to assimilate with Tengen; both later ask him to teach them jujutsu 22 24 28.
- Masamichi Yaga — Teacher whose training emphasizes physical conditioning and taking even minor missions seriously 11 40.
- Yuki Tsukumo — Special Grade assessor and fellow reformer. Later accepts him under Jujutsu Shadow’s protection, subject to its rules 30 32 109 110.
- Yu Haibara and Kento Nanami — Junior sorcerers who assist during Riko’s protection mission and join the reform effort; both witness his Special Grade assessment 22 30 33.
- Kenjaku — Enemy seeking Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Engineers the association’s destruction, survives being absorbed, and exploits Geto’s technique before emerging as Leviathan 46 108 112.
- Kanon — Kenjaku’s vessel and the sisters’ acquaintance. Geto attempts absorption partly to avoid killing her along with Kenjaku 106 108.

Hakone and the Time Vessel Association
- After becoming Special Grade, accepts responsibility for establishing a religion with Shoko as part of the group’s reform plan 30 34.

- Battles Kenjaku in Kanon’s body with expendable troops, four Special Grade imaginary spirits, and a combined domain assault 106 107 108.
- Absorbs Kenjaku to separate him from Kanon, but leaves without performing the intended Uzumaki execution. His disappearance and the association’s destruction throw Jujutsu Society into turmoil 108.
- Joins Jujutsu Shadow under Yuki’s protection and publicly supports Mitsuki’s super-barrier plan 109 110.
Leviathan’s Emergence and Recovery
- Kenjaku exploits a binding vow to preserve his consciousness after absorption, gains partial access to Geto’s technique, and consumes stored spirits through Uzumaki 112.
- Geto’s strengthened will prevents complete possession. Kenjaku instead emerges from his body as Leviathan, leaving him critically injured and stripped of his collection 111 112 115.
