Untouchable

Ling Chu struck first when she saw the pack of hyenas.

The Oath of the Wind Whisperer spun in her hand. She drew the bowstring taut and nocked three Storm Arrows at once.

The instant the arrows left the string, the hyena pack moved as well, diving down from the hill almost simultaneously. Their grayish-brown forms left blurred afterimages beneath the blazing sun.

The first arrow struck the lead hyena squarely in the shoulder blade. It let out a muffled grunt, its front leg buckled, and it tumbled into the sand, kicking up a cloud of dust.

The other two arrows were dodged by the hyena pack's astonishing jumping ability. They embedded themselves in the ground, blasting open two small craters in the sand.

Hyenas ranked among the fastest animals, comparable to lions. In just a few breaths, the distance between them had closed to less than ten paces.

Ling Chu put away her longbow. The Blade of White Bones spun half a turn between her fingers before she gripped it in reverse. Rather than retreating, she stepped toward the hyena pack. She twisted aside to evade the claws of a hyena Pouncing at her, then swept the blade's tip in a short arc across its throat. The hyena charged several more steps after landing before collapsing limply to the ground.

At the same time, the second and third hyenas Pounced at her from either side. Ling Chu did not use a skill to evade them. This was the perfect chance to test the new bone rune she had acquired.
