Louis E. Grieve Memorial High School was located in Gotham's Upper East Side, farther away than the school Kara had attended before.
Luckily, Gotham was small. The three of them took a car and arrived in no time.
It was just that the gazes they encountered along the way made Li Ang feel a little uncomfortable.
Harley Quinn was wearing his clothes, but she was also exceptionally beautiful, so of course she drew people's attention.
Harley didn't mind. In fact, she seemed to have thought of something.
Just as Li Ang had said, the Joker outfit was outdated!
When they arrived at the school, they saw that it had set up a platform, apparently to welcome new students like them.
There were also plenty of reporters nearby, cameras in hand, though they didn't seem particularly interested in taking pictures.
After all, who cared about these ordinary students?
"Let's go over."
But Harley Quinn was intrigued. She immediately linked arms with Li Ang and ran toward the front.
Now she and Kara each had an arm linked through Li Ang's, as if they were secretly competing.
"Hey, hurry up and take my picture!"
Harley spoke to one of the reporters without a hint of politeness.
"Why?"
The reporter asked. Then, seeing how pretty she was, he decided she might be worth a picture and simply took a "family portrait."
"Because I'm..."
Harley hadn't even finished speaking before Li Ang clamped a hand over her mouth and dragged her away.
They needed to get inside, quickly.
If people found out she was Harley Quinn, Kara would probably have trouble enrolling.
Although Harley Quinn had learned the previous night that Li Ang was very strong, she was still surprised. "Darling, you're so strong. No wonder you could kill me."
Kara was left speechless.
Just then, a middle-aged white woman appeared before them. She wore a women's suit and carried herself like a leader.
A reporter behind her was taking pictures, documenting her welcoming the new students.
Li Ang immediately understood.
"Hello, I'm Principal Connie of Memorial High School."
Principal Connie did her best to look amiable, but looking at Li Ang and the others' clothes—especially Harley's bold, carefree manner—she couldn't see anything aristocratic or elite about them.
She wasn't sure whether keeping these students at the school would be a good thing...
Li Ang recognized her voice. Although he knew this was "Wayne's assignment," he still greeted her pleasantly. "Hello, Principal. I'm Kara Zor-El's guardian."
"So this is Kara?"
Principal Connie's attitude changed at once. She looked at the blonde, blue-eyed Kara before her as if she'd found a treasure.
"How beautiful, just like a doll. She really is an excellent student. I'm sure Kara will love the school..."
Then she gave a speech, praising Kara.
Wayne Enterprises had specifically chosen her, and her name was listed first. With Principal Connie's years of experience, she could tell that meant something.
Perhaps it had something to do with Bruce Wayne?
Kara was confused, too.
What was going on?
After saying a great deal, Principal Connie politely said, "Please wait for the other new students, then we'll take a group photo."
Li Ang and the others could only wait. Harley Quinn quickly lost interest.
"This is boring. So boring."
Harley kept whispering in Li Ang's ear. "Darling, how about we go meet that girl? Why is her hair purple?"
"We're not here to have fun."
Li Ang held her back.
Kara clearly had no interest in making friends. To her, they were all too childish.
The others had come with their parents, and soon they were all gathered together.
But just then, the reporters outside the school suddenly burst into cheers, their camera shutters flashing.
Harley Quinn was instantly annoyed. "What's going on? No one took a picture of me, and I'm gorgeous! I want to see who it is!"
She stormed outside. Li Ang felt that bringing her here had been a mistake, but he could only hurry after her.
A supercar that looked like a concept car had pulled up. The reporters were frantically snapping pictures, apparently already knowing who was inside.
The door opened, and the reporters immediately surged forward.
"Bruce Wayne, why is Wayne Enterprises holding this event?"
"Will Wayne Enterprises continue to support this project?"
"What does Wayne Enterprises think about the issue of climate change?"
"Mr. Wayne..."
The man who stepped out of the car was none other than Gotham's famous playboy, Bruce Wayne.
He wore a custom-made, high-end suit, his hair neatly combed and gleaming. He stood tall, radiating confidence and an air of world-weariness.
He looked quite pleased and even answered a few questions from the reporters.
At that moment, Kara tried to tempt Harley Quinn. "That's Bruce Wayne. If he's willing to spend money on you, you'd never run out of money for the rest of your life."
"Heh."
For some reason, however, Harley Quinn had taken an instant dislike to Bruce Wayne.
"Kid, rich men are all bad news. Especially your Godfather—he absolutely mustn't have money!"
Harley Quinn immediately turned the argument toward Li Ang.
Thinking about Li Ang's behavior, Kara actually nodded. "That makes sense."
If Li Ang was like this without money, what would he be like once he had some? All those bitches would definitely throw themselves at him.
"So you can't trust men. The more you love a man, the more he'll hurt you..."
"Harley."
Li Ang hurriedly pulled her away, lest she lead Kara astray.
Kara had never heard anything like this before. Still, as she avidly absorbed knowledge about Earth, it struck her as reasonable.
Just then, Bruce Wayne finished dealing with the reporters, and Principal Connie immediately went over to greet him.
"Mr. Wayne, I never expected you to come in person. It's a great honor for our school."
Principal Connie was incredibly excited.
It was Bruce Wayne, after all.
Harley Quinn even mocked him. "He looks like a unicorn wearing fifty million dollars' worth of gold. What a rare sight."
Bruce Wayne exchanged a few polite words with the principal, then said, "I'm just here to take a look. Let's wrap this up quickly so the children can get to class."
Then, led by the principal, he went around meeting everyone.
Wayne Enterprises was sponsoring quite a few children this time.
Soon, it was Li Ang and the others' turn.
"Thank you, Mr. Wayne."
Li Ang smiled. Bruce Wayne had taken care of Kara's schooling and even waived her tuition. There was no reason for him not to be happy.
He knew Bruce had other motives, but so what?
"You're welcome. I hope Kara studies hard."
Bruce Wayne was more interested in Kara. This was his first time meeting Kara Zor-El.
This alien girl.
She looked no different from a human on Earth, except that she was even more beautiful, as delicate as a Barbie doll.
"Is this your wife?"
Then he noticed Harley Quinn. Even without her usual Harley Quinn makeup, he recognized her immediately.
What was going on!?
"Uh..."
Li Ang still didn't know how to explain when Harley Quinn flashed a radiant smile and said, "We're still discussing it, but there's a good chance... yes. I'll be Kara's godmother."
Kara and Bruce Wayne both broke down.
Li Ang covered his face. There was no explaining this now. Batman was going to beat him up and label him a villain.
