Background / History

Harley is first found unconscious from heavy drinking in Gotham's abandoned Black Liquor Factory, surrounded by unconscious gang members. On waking, she attacks Li Ang before begging him to help her regain the Joker's affection; Li Ang tells her that the Joker does not love her. 21

After the Joker publicly cuts ties with her, rival gangs treat Harley as vulnerable and begin targeting her. She adopts a red-and-blue outfit inspired by Li Ang's description, declaring it the “new Harley Quinn” and a break from her former Joker-associated image. 25

Harley becomes closely involved with Li Ang and attempts to insert herself into Kara's life as a mother figure. Although Kara initially rejects her, Harley continues to call herself Kara's godmother and shows protectiveness toward both Kara and later Ciri and Rachel. 23 25 36

Following Black Mask's fall, Harley assumes control of the Upper East Side and grows into a major force in Gotham's underworld. Her organization later takes over the Iceberg Lounge after Penguin's arrest. 39 101 154

Appearance

Harley is a tall blonde woman with a notably pale, altered complexion. She is described as 1.7 meters tall, with long legs and a striking figure. 23 103

  • Usually wears her blonde hair in twin tails with red-and-blue-dyed ends. 25 103
  • Her redesigned outfit includes a white bustier, red-and-blue jacket, matching shorts, fishnet stockings, and ankle boots. 25
  • Uses lighter facial powder than her former Joker-era makeup, red lipstick, eyeliner, and a heart drawn on her face. 25
  • Carries and fights with a baseball bat. 84 100
  • Also wears varied casual and formal outfits, including a pink vest with yellow bell-bottoms and a black-and-red slit dress. 53 103

Personality

Harley is impulsive, theatrical, possessive, and difficult for others to predict. She acts on sudden ideas, enjoys chaos and pranks, and frequently changes her stated goals—from wanting to be a good person to loudly insisting she is Gotham's “baddest bitch.” 70 98 101

Despite her violent behavior and criminal methods, Harley is intensely devoted to people she considers hers. She seeks Li Ang's affection, develops maternal feelings toward Kara, Ciri, and Rachel, and is willing to take serious risks for them. 23 36 84 244 Her former dependence on the Joker steadily gives way to open mockery and rejection of him. 76 78

Harley is also intelligent in unconventional ways. Her psychiatric background lets her see through Angela's false instability, and she uses Arkham's environment and a staged injection to pressure Angela into revealing information. 145 147 148
