Geography and Cosmology
Lingyang Realm was originally described as a world of round sky and square earth, spanning countless millions of li. Its scale was such that an ordinary person could not cross it in a lifetime 1.
- It was later seen from outer space as a boundless continent enclosed by a gray world membrane, with two enormous yin-and-yang celestial bodies revolving around it 275.
- The Human Race occupied the Shenzhou Vast Land, while the Demon Race held the Boundless Demon Domain and the Devil Race occupied the Infinite Devil Cave; wars and border clashes were frequent 1.
- Later accounts describe the Human, Demon, and Monster races as the realm’s long-standing rulers, with established teleportation arrays and territory extending into neighboring star systems 275.
- The Middle Heaven Domain was eventually swallowed by the Boundless Sea, leaving much of Lingyang as a vast ocean broken by surviving peaks and floating settlements 657.
- During the transformation crisis, the realm appeared from outside as a colossal gray cocoon that blocked external probing 665 672.
History
Primordial Era
In the earliest recorded era, Lingyang Realm had only one overlord: the Ancient God. Its origin was unknown, as though it had existed since the realm’s beginning 88.
The Human, Monster, and Demon races were subordinate to the Ancient God, or simply food. Pure-blooded Ancient Gods possessed overwhelming bloodline advantages: newborns were comparable to Heavenly Gang Realm martial artists, while adults were at least comparable to Primordial Spirit cultivators 88.
The mixed-blooded Demi-God Race eventually rebelled. The resulting Ancient God War lasted nearly one hundred thousand years before the Human Race and Ancient Gods forced the Demi-Gods and Demon/Monster races into retreat 89.
Blood Cleansing and the Ancient Era
After the Ancient God War, the first Human Emperor initiated the Blood Cleansing: a war against every race except pure-blooded humans. He personally killed his wife and his mixed-blooded son before turning the Human Race’s forces against the Ancient Gods and Demi-Gods 89.
The Blood Cleansing stretched from the Primordial Era into the Ancient Era and nearly exterminated the Demi-God Race. Its survivors hid among the Demon and Monster races, no longer daring to openly call themselves Demi-Gods 89.
With the Ancient Gods’ traces erased, the Human Race inherited much of the Primordial Era’s foundation. Human civilization flourished for hundreds of thousands of years, Emperor Stars emerged in succession, and the Demon and Monster races were suppressed—until pure-blooded Ancient Gods returned and plunged the realm into turmoil again 89.
Heavenly Dao
World Barrier and External Suppression
The gray membrane surrounding Lingyang Realm functions as an active defense. When an external star system’s consciousness struck it, the membrane reacted and crushed that consciousness almost instantly 275.
Lingyang’s laws are notably hostile toward outside power.
- Outer-realm experts entering during the World-Ending Tribulation were detected and annihilated by heavenly lightning within moments 539.
- Even Lingwu Hall disciples found their blood essence suppressed and their combat power reduced to less than a tenth after entering the realm 666.
- In ancient times, even Rulers were reportedly suppressed upon entering Ling Yang 666.
- Its influence is limited beyond the realm itself; Lingyang Heaven could not fully extend its power into the river of time and space 765.
Tribulations and Restrictions
Lingyang’s Heavenly Dao governs tribulations and cultivation thresholds. Its sensitivity was demonstrated when a Cloud of Tribulation targeted Shi Lan’s storage bracelet because it contained remnants of Supreme Bloodlines 458.
At one point, the weakened Heavenly Dao prevented new Dao Achievers from appearing, trapping many powerhouses at the Emperor level’s peak 483. After the great anomaly, the Heavenly Dao Alliance gained authority over tribulations within the realm; cultivators seeking to enter the Eighth Rank were required to register and undergo tribulation in its territory 694.
Heavenly Dao Mark
The position of God King carries Lingyang’s Heavenly Dao Mark. As long as Ling Yang remains intact, the God King cannot be completely destroyed 355.
Within the realm, possession of the Heavenly Dao Mark grants decisive authority: even Rulers can be suppressed by a single thought when inside Lingyang 749.
Transformation and Political Order
The realm’s great transformation drew powerful factions from across the Great Universe. Its world barriers were shattered, multiple Great Realms were forced into it, and their destruction released Source Energy into Ling Yang 674.
After the upheaval:
- The original territories of the three races largely disintegrated; only newer aerial fortresses and the Phantom Star Domain remained relatively intact 695.
- The Human Race became marginalized, while many of its martial artists and Heavenly Prides left the realm before the transformation 667 710.
- The Heavenly Dao Alliance occupied nearly one-third of the realm and became its dominant power, holding authority over the lives and deaths of beings below the Supreme level 710.
- Several Shenwu Great World factions controlled portions of the remaining territory, while the Demon Race held the larger share 710.
- The realm’s continuing expansion and influx of new resources ensured that conflicts over territory did not cease 710.
Manifestations
Ling Yuan became an incarnation of Lingyang’s Heavenly Dao. Her cultivation accelerated abnormally, and she ultimately revealed that Ling Qing had dissolved his Emperor Bloodline so she could retain her clarity 677.
When Shi Lan later confronted her, she addressed the golden-haired woman as either “Ling Yuan” or “Ling Yang,” confirming the connection between the avatar and the realm 783.
Lingyang Heaven can also directly intervene in battle. During Shi Lan’s fight with the Demi-God Race Great Sages, it suppressed opposing Dao Flowers while strengthening those of the Demi-Gods 764. It later protected the Demi-God Clan by placing forbidden Dao patterns over its territory, barring tenth-tier beings from entering or leaving 765.
Relationships
- Ancient God Race — Lingyang’s earliest known overlords; pure-blooded Ancient Gods were favored by heaven and earth and possessed immense innate strength 88.
- God King — Bears the Heavenly Dao Mark and cannot be completely destroyed while Lingyang Realm survives 355.
- Ling Yuan — Heavenly Dao avatar who retained partial clarity through Ling Qing’s sacrificed Emperor Bloodline 677.
- Shi Lan — Entered Ling Yang under an Ancient God disguise, later confronted its Heavenly Dao directly, and ultimately made an agreement with Ling Yang for its future reincarnation 665 782 783.
- Heavenly Dao Alliance — Became the post-transformation dominant power, controlling tribulation access and occupying roughly one-third of the realm 694 710.
