Background / History

Tian Bai was originally named Tian Liang, a name given by a mother who hoped the child would live to see every next day. After the mother’s death and with no known father, Tian Bai renamed himself Tian Bai. Before meeting Shi Lan, he ruled the Ximou Mountain Range, a territory within the Feather Emperor Palace’s sphere of influence. 173

Tian Bai first encountered Shi Lan while believing her to be a powerful Demon King. He immediately submitted, shrank his massive true form, and identified himself as the master of the Ximou Mountain Range. When Shi Lan required “blood food,” Tian Bai repeatedly hunted Earth Fiend Realm demon beasts for her, sustaining serious injuries while dragging back prey strong enough to aid her recovery. 173 176

Shi Lan’s blood changed Tian Bai’s future. As a Xuan Yu Leopard, Tian Bai’s natural limit had been the Heavenly Dipper Realm; consuming her blood loosened those inherited shackles and gave him a possibility of reaching the Formed Demon King realm. Tian Bai responded by working to remain useful, fearing that Shi Lan would eventually have no need for him. 176

Shi Lan later accepted Tian Bai into the Lan Clan through a blood-bead connection. Though initially disappointed that other Demon Kings had also joined Shi Lan, Tian Bai eagerly offered Essence Blood to establish the bond. Shi Lan eventually shared demon-beast prey with him and gave him a Dragon Pearl, recognizing his assistance in the Demon Domain. 182 184 209

When Shi Lan prepared to leave the Demon Domain, Tian Bai asked to accompany her rather than accept another reward. Despite warning that the journey would be dangerous, Shi Lan allowed him to follow. Tian Bai thereafter traveled with her through other domains, concealed himself as a small spirit pet when necessary, and defended Shi Lan while she underwent a two-month transformation in the Phoenix Blood pool. 317 318

After refining Demon King Essence Blood, Tian Bai transformed into a humanoid Formed Demon King. He remained instinctively dependent on Shi Lan, initially trying to climb into her embrace as he had in beast form; Shi Lan instead gave him a magic robe and instructed him to adapt to his new form. 335

In true form, Tian Bai is a snow-white Xuan Yu Leopard. His humanoid form retains snow-white hair, bright eyes, and small fangs. 320 335

Tian Bai is intensely loyal and dependent on Shi Lan. He consistently defers to her commands, calls her “Venerable One” or “Your Excellency,” and considers remaining valuable to her more important than personal safety. 176 317

His worldview is initially simple and instinct-driven. Tian Bai understands survival, territory, strength, and obedience, but struggles with human social principles and conventional moral distinctions. Under Su Yangbing’s teaching, Tian Bai defines righteousness primarily as loyalty to Shi Lan and evil as opposition to her. 490 558

Despite this simplicity, Tian Bai is protective and emotionally perceptive regarding Shi Lan. He reacts fiercely when others disrespect her, worries when she is injured or absent, and is distressed by the prospect of being unable to remain at her side. 318 320 454 698
