Background / History

Creation and appointment

Qing Lan originated as Shi Lan's external incarnation. Shi Lan elevated a Green Lotus to the Myriad Manifestations Realm, fused it with Demon Emperor blood and spiritual materials, then transferred her Immortal Dao Primordial Spirit and Dao Foundation into the new body. 409

Shi Lan named the avatar Qing Lan, equipped her with a Magic Robe and Qiankun Bracelet, and appointed her master of the Lan Clan. The System panel split at the moment of separation, leaving Qing Lan with an independent panel and consciousness. 410

Though created as an avatar, Qing Lan possesses a complete, independent Primordial Spirit. Her Yao Race identity is genuine enough that even the Demon Emperor would not discern her origin through ordinary means. 474

Lan Clan and the Outer Realm

As Lan Clan master, Qing Lan cultivated at the Ancestral Blood Pool and received the submission of the Purple Lightning Leopard tribe. Cang Yue considered her pressure more terrifying than Shi Lan's. 425

During the expedition to Huang Ze's Mausoleum, Tu Shan Yuqi and other Celestial Demons speculated that Qing Lan might be a hidden Imperial Princess because of her resemblance to Demon Emperor Chen Xin and the Feather Emperor's attention toward the Lan Clan. Qing Lan instead focused on Huang Ze's Emperor Blood and the Divine Phoenix Undying Scripture. 467

After obtaining the Divine Phoenix Undying Scripture, Qing Lan asked to lead the entire Lan Clan into the Outer Realm. Shi Lan ultimately allowed it, viewing Qing Lan as a pathfinder for her own eventual departure from Lingyang Realm. 477 479

Awakening of self and the Heavenly Fire Immortal Dynasty

Qing Lan's sense of self was nearly erased during her cultivation, but the Heavenly Azure Spiritual Profound Scripture stabilized her Sea of Consciousness and gathered her fading true self. 556

Her increasing autonomy created tension with Shi Lan, who initially considered eliminating her if Qing Lan acted first. Shi Lan later acknowledged Qing Lan's innocence and her own responsibility for creating an avatar intended to bear danger in her place. 566

Qing Lan established the Heavenly Fire Immortal Dynasty after killing Wei Pengju to assert authority. She eradicated Cangyang Palace, expanded the dynasty's territory by nearly ten million miles, and distributed a Supreme Law to forces that submitted. 566

Ten Thousand Dynasties' Elite Competition

Qing Lan represented the Silver Feather Dynasty in the Ten Thousand Dynasties' Elite Competition. Mu Yunjie asked her to protect his younger sister, Mu Zhaoxi, amid pressure against the dynasty. 594

She won more than twenty consecutive matches and defeated Qin Feng despite offering him an opportunity to concede before fighting. Her performance drew the Blood God Temple's attention. 604 609

Blood God Temple God Son

The Blood God Temple first offered Qing Lan the position of God Son during the competition, supplying the Supreme Artifact Meteor Rainbow as protection. 609 621

After attaining Dao, Qing Lan accepted the position on her own terms: territory from a top-tier dynasty, noninterference in the Heavenly Fire Immortal Dynasty, and permission to establish Golden Body Jade statues throughout Blood God Temple territory. She intended to use the statues for Incense Wish Power and to spread the Heavenly Azure Spiritual Profound Scripture. 654

At her succession ceremony, she received a short sword linked to the Blood God Temple's treasure. Within its Supreme Domain, the weapon makes her extremely difficult to kill even for a newly ascended Tenth Stage Supreme. 664

Appearance

Qing Lan resembles Shi Lan closely enough to invite suspicion, though her aura and identity are distinct. She is commonly seen in green robes with long hair falling past her waist and clear, lake-like eyes; while traveling for the Ten Thousand Dynasties' Elite Competition, she wore a veil over long black hair. 474 477 594

  • Her expression is usually cold and unreadable. 425
  • Her body was forged with Emperor Blood, granting an unusually profound immortal foundation and exceptional reserves of mana. 493
  • After the Life Tribulation began, her flesh and bones became jade-like and free of impurities, with immortal nectar flowing through her body. 556

Personality

Qing Lan is quiet, detached, and goal-oriented. She dismisses flattery, political speculation, and displays of catastrophe when they do not affect her immediate objective. 467 477

Her detachment does not make her thoughtless. She avoids making unnecessary enemies, such as when she gave Qin Feng the chance to concede rather than immediately attacking him, and she negotiates carefully when faced with powers stronger than herself. 609 654

Qing Lan developed a stronger self-preservation instinct as her identity solidified. She seeks power, political protection, and Incense Wish Power not merely for ambition, but to survive the karmic danger she believes awaits an Immortal Dao cultivator. 573 654

Despite her ruthless methods against Cangyang Palace, she retains compassion that she regards as a weakness. She used Incense Wish Power to aid Shi Lan's recovery and remained concerned for Shi Lan even while fearing their connection could endanger her. 549 566 573

Trivia

  • The author states that Qing Lan was not part of the original plan and was created because no existing character could plausibly keep pace with Shi Lan's growth. 791
  • The author describes Qing Lan as combining elements originally intended for Wu Lingkong and Di Luosha. 791
  • Qing Lan's unusually rapid Immortal Dao advancement is explicitly described by the author as difficult to justify in-setting, though less conspicuous beside Shi Lan's growth. 791
