| Saint | 219 | Follows Yuanshi and Tongtian in proving the Dao, attaining sainthood from the Eight Treasures Merit Pool. |
Background / History
Jieyin originated in the devastated Western Continent and remained at Mount Sumeru despite its depleted spiritual veins. He aided the Bodhi Tree that accompanied him in taking form, allowing it to become Zhunti; the two then dedicated themselves to restoring the West rather than seeking an easier life in the East. 2 19 402
At Zixiao Palace, Jieyin and Zhunti pleaded with Hongjun on behalf of the West. Hongjun accepted Jieyin as a nominal disciple, granted him Hongmeng Purple Qi, and bestowed the Twelve Grade Merit Golden Lotus and Azure Lotus Treasure Color Flag. 53
Before attaining sainthood, Jieyin sought opportunities to strengthen the West through conversion. During Taowu's rampage, he proposed reforming the fierce beast into a Western ally, though Beiming condemned the plan as greed disguised as compassion. 128
Jieyin proved the Dao after Yuanshi and Tongtian, becoming the West's sole Saint. He later preached Buddhist teachings for three thousand years in a contest with Beiming, then challenged Beiming personally in Chaos to assess his strength and potential value as an ally. 219 233 236
The duel ended decisively in Beiming's favor: Jieyin's Blessing Divine Pestle, Twelve Grade Merit Golden Lotus, Jieyin Treasure Banner, and Sarira beads were broken. Recognizing Beiming's superiority and his eventual departure from Honghuang, Jieyin chose to cooperate with him against the Three Pure Ones where doing so advanced Western interests. 237 238
To secure the West's role in the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors era, Jieyin surrendered the Azure Lotus Treasure Color Flag and accepted Beiming's East-West integration strategy. 304 305 323
As forces converged on the West, Jieyin remained wary of Beiming, Ming He, and the hidden Demon Sect. He maintained that Western prosperity mattered more than the continued existence of the Western Religion itself. 400 402
During the conflict at Asura City, Jieyin intervened to prevent the Western servant army's total collapse, but Beiming repelled him from Honghuang with the Hongmeng Measuring Ruler. After the servant army was annihilated, Jieyin accepted that the old Western system had failed and turned toward preaching in the East. 438 439 440 441
Jieyin ultimately broke from the Xuan Sect alongside Zhunti and founded the Buddhist Sect, declaring that its disciples would follow Buddhist Dharma rather than the Zixiao teachings. 550 Following further conflict with Yuanshi, he reached a compromise after the Buddha Dharma Image and Merit Golden Lotus were damaged by the Pangu Qi Blade. 553 The West was later revived when Beiming reshaped its spiritual veins with the Six Saints' assistance. 598
Personality
Jieyin presents himself as calm, compassionate, and sorrowful, frequently invoking the suffering of the West and its living beings. His perseverance is repeatedly recognized as exceptional, and he remains committed to Mount Sumeru even when Eastern blessed lands offer far greater comfort and resources. 19 53 64 402
Behind this demeanor, he is pragmatic and calculating. Jieyin evaluates alliances by their value to the West, tests stronger figures before committing himself, and is willing to surrender reputation, treasures, or even the Western Religion's identity if doing so serves Western revival. 236 303 305 402
He is cautious rather than reckless. Even when approached by the Demon Spirit Saint and given a devil seed, Jieyin neither immediately destroys it nor joins the Demon Sect; instead, he considers whether breaking with the Xuan Sect could create a viable future for the West. 427
Abilities & Skills
Buddhist Dharma and Conversion
Jieyin's teachings focus on salvation, conversion, and guiding beings away from suffering.
- Preached Buddhist Dharma for three thousand years in the Western Pure Land, attempting to sway Beiming's disciples through Buddhist insight. 233
- Proposed converting Taowu's fierce nature and recruiting him as a Western combatant, though he admitted he lacked the cultivation to accomplish this before becoming a Saint. 128
- Founded the Buddhist Sect with Zhunti, defining its purpose as ferrying both themselves and other living beings across the “bitter sea.” 550
Saintly Might
As a Saint, Jieyin can project overwhelming pressure over a battlefield.
- His arrival at Asura City halted fighting and forced both the Asura Race and Western servant army beneath his Saintly pressure. 439
