Background / History

Kanzaki comes from an influential family with connections in politics and business. His father chose to send him to Advanced Education Academy rather than the White Room, after which Kanzaki concluded that the school’s students and circumstances demanded greater caution than he had expected. 3

He was already acquainted with Sakayanagi Arisu before enrolling. Sakayanagi states that her father kept Kanzaki out of Class A because he was concerned Kanzaki might be a spy connected to Ayanokouji-sensei; Kanzaki himself also says he prefers not to be drawn into trouble. 21

Upon meeting Itozawa in Class B, Kanzaki immediately detected Itozawa’s observation and attempted to force him to forget his analysis through a mental command. Itozawa resisted and converted the invading mental power within his Mind Sea, leaving Kanzaki intrigued by an ability he could not identify. 3

Kanzaki then probed Ichinose, only for his mental power to be assimilated into her passive ability without her noticing. These failures made him reassess his standing in Class B and become more guarded in his approach to its strongest students. 3 4

Personality

Kanzaki is analytical, restrained, and wary of unknown abilities. He habitually probes situations before committing himself, whether by concealing himself near Itozawa in the canteen or by testing the defenses of people such as Itozawa, Ichinose, and Sakagami. 10 25 33

Despite his preference for freedom and avoidance of school politics, he takes practical responsibility when Class B needs information or strategy. Ryuen interrupts the operation by attacking Kanzaki. After recovering, Kanzaki extracts the group from Ryuen’s assault, allowing Watanabe’s released water to incapacitate their opponent temporarily. 13 14

Sakagami’s Sealed Field

When Shibata vanishes inside Sakagami’s office, Kanzaki detects Sakagami’s abnormal mental fluctuation and tests the office with mental shockwaves, which are completely absorbed. 25 He identifies the obstacle as a Sealed Field and explains the group’s possible, though unlikely, methods of breaking it. 25 26

Class B Development and Club Activities
