Attributes and Compatibility

A Martial Soul possesses inherent attributes that affect which Soul Skills its bearer can successfully use. Plant-type Martial Souls correspond to wood, while fire- and ice-type Martial Souls correspond to their respective elements 12.

• A Soul Skill is executed by circulating Soul Power through specific meridians or “circuits.” 11 12
• Copying another person's Soul Power flow is insufficient when the user's attributes do not match the skill. Taichu could replicate the pattern for Blue Silver Grass's Bind, but could not use it because he lacked the wood attribute. 12
• Taichu successfully copied the lightning-attribute Thunder Step, confirming that his Martial Soul could reproduce compatible techniques. 14
• A Soul Ring's attribute can steer a Martial Soul's development; Jingang's gold-attribute ring began pushing his Body Martial Soul toward an “Indestructible Diamond Body.” 99

Body Martial Souls

Body Martial Souls manifest through parts of the bearer's body. Hands, feet, hair, hearts, and eyes are cited as possible forms 53.

Eye-type Body Martial Souls are widely regarded as poor prospects because they are associated chiefly with Mental Power and Genjutsu rather than direct physical enhancement. Taichu's Sharingan disproves that prejudice through its evolving Dojutsu and copying abilities 13 53.

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

A Soul Beast must be killed by the person intending to absorb its Soul Ring; otherwise, the resulting ring cannot be used by that person 8.

• Higher-aged rings demand sufficient physical quality and Mental Power, particularly because Ten Thousand Year rings produce a Soul Shock during absorption. 33 34
• Soul Rings normally produce skills suited to the Martial Soul's attributes. 12
• Taichu's Martial Soul is an exceptional case: its Soul Rings convert Dojutsu into Soul Skills, with the absorbed Soul Beast's attributes influencing the result. 9 21

By Level 86, Taichu possessed an unprecedented eight-ring configuration: purple, purple, black, black, black, red, red, red. His final three rings were Hundred Thousand Year Soul Rings 266.

Genjutsu and Mental Power

The Mangekyou Sharingan substantially elevated Taichu's Mental Power even before he obtained his first Soul Ring. He used its Genjutsu to trap Tang San and injure Yu Xiaogang, then later overwhelmed a thousand-year mental-type Phantom Domain Spirit Fox 6 8.

• Tsukuyomi is particularly effective against opponents whose Mental Power is below Taichu's. 9 36
• A sufficiently powerful target can forcibly break free, but doing so causes backlash to Taichu's spirit. 270
• The Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan gave Taichu Mental Power comparable to a Soul Emperor above Level 60 while he was only nine years old. 34

Perception and Copying

After gaining his first Soul Ring, Taichu could perceive Soul Power flowing through another person's meridians. This granted him extreme combat-reading ability and allowed him to record techniques 11.

• He precisely read and countered Tang San's attacks, including the Tang Sect techniques Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon and Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track. 11

• A vow sworn upon one's Martial Soul can carry the penalty of Martial Soul shattering. Taichu describes this as effectively total annihilation for a Soul Master. 214
