Background / History

Li Wei was originally a man from Earth who awakened as a newly hatched Silver Dragon inside a kobold cooking pot in the Underdark. After eating part of his eggshell, he unleashed a freezing roar and instinctively revealed the dragon name “Tiberius Sextus Kinu Levis.” 1

Wounded during his escape from the kobolds, he survived by consuming moss, stone, soil, and underground creatures. His first slumber brought him into the Dragon Inheritance Dreamscape, where ancestral memory-fragments contained spells, talents, and the history of other dragons. 2 3

One of the most consequential inherited memories belonged to Sylvie, an exceptional Silver Dragon capable of True Polymorph. Witnessing Sylvie transform into a Red Dragon after consuming a red dragon eggshell gave Li Wei access to her abnormal transformation talent. 4

Over the next three years, Li Wei established a lair beside an Underdark river and accepted a tribe of Slimes as dependents. Together they created a self-sustaining food system based on fluorescent moss, fungi, fish farming, and cold-storage caves shaped by Li Wei’s dragon domain. 8

His body developed abnormally during this period. His scales lost their ordinary Silver Dragon shine, becoming dull and light-absorbing, while his azure eyes darkened with a purple-black hue. He later concluded that an unknown mutation had altered both his body and breath weapon. 9 10

Li Wei spent much of his early life concealing his identity through transformed forms, including a Red Dragon, a Half-Dragon Gnoll, and humanoid disguises. He eventually publicly revealed his Silver Dragon form to Hogg Mining’s leadership while preparing to negotiate with the rulers of the Silvermoon Federation. 14 147 173 174

Li Wei’s true form is a massive Silver Dragon whose appearance differs sharply from that of ordinary members of his species. His scale armor is dim rather than polished, while fine golden threads ripple across it with arcane radiance. 9 173

Li Wei is highly adaptive and practical. His earliest decisions as a hatchling prioritize food, shelter, concealment, and escape over dragon pride, while his later rule over Zelandia continues to emphasize sustainable development, military readiness, and political independence. 2 8 173

He is cautious around stronger opponents and frequently relies on deception, transformed identities, and calculated intimidation rather than direct confrontation. During his pursuit of Alogosith, for example, he deliberately acted like an unstable and violent dragon to exploit a Chromatic Dragon’s fear of overwhelming power. 174 383

Despite his pragmatism, Li Wei repeatedly assumes responsibility for weaker groups under his protection. He volunteers to establish a sanctuary for rescued refugees, instructs his allies to prioritize one another’s safety during the struggle for the Mythallar, and works to preserve the Silver Dragon civilization he encounters across time. 137 182 634
