Background / History

Jinin entered the first Chunin Exam as the oldest member of Kirigakure's team and one of its strongest fighters, second only to team leader Yagura. Though seemingly thin, he possessed exceptional natural strength and wielded the blunt sword Kabutowari. He was defeated by Might Duy after Duy opened the Three Gates and used Reverse Lotus, leaving Jinin severely injured and barely alive. 30 32

The defeat left Jinin with a lasting fear and resentment toward Duy. During the conflict in the Land of Whirlpools, he still rubbed the scar where Duy had broken his neck and vowed to settle his debt with Konoha. He subsequently fought Sarutobi Toru, disguised as “Shanks,” but was sent flying when Kabutowari was struck barehanded. 63 64 65

After the Second Shinobi World War, Jinin rejected Kirigakure’s Blood Mist ideology. Having been defeated twice by Duy—a ninja whose strength came from obsessive effort rather than the village’s cruelty—he concluded that ruthlessness did not determine a shinobi’s power. When Kushimaru Kuriarare and Munashi Jinpachi attempted to flee Kirigakure, Jinin opposed them at the village gate. He exchanged blows with both swordsmen, damaged Munashi through Kabutowari’s double strike, and claimed he could delay the pair for more than ten minutes. A guard-unit supporter of the Blood Mist Policy later ambushed and injured his knee during the confrontation. 206 207

Jinin later joined Kirigakure’s expedition against the Land of Whirlpools alongside Kisame Hoshigaki, Ringo Ameyuri, Juzo Biwa, and Utakata. Realizing that Konoha had anticipated the operation, he immediately ordered a retreat and volunteered to hold the enemy back with the Kaguya clan forces. The expedition was defeated; Jinin was imprisoned in Konoha with his chakra sealed and Kabutowari confiscated. 305 306 307

After returning to Kirigakure, he remained among the village’s leading swordsmen. He later led a surprise naval attack on Sunagakure’s reclaimed coastline, using a massive tsunami alongside the other Mist forces. 313 338
