Background / History

Tang San was first encountered in the Soul Hunting Forest alongside Yu Xiaogang. When Yu Xiaogang was poisoned by a Datura Snake, Tang San saved him using unusual throwing techniques and demonstrated knowledge beyond that expected of an ordinary child 1.

His Blue Silver Grass retained a portion of the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, though Chen Xing's acquisition of Ah Yin's Emperor-level bloodline and evolution into Purple Imperial Bamboo prevented Tang San's martial soul from evolving into a Blue Silver Emperor 8 57. Under Yu Xiaogang's guidance, Tang San absorbed beast-type and poison-attribute spirit rings, including rings from a Datura Snake, Ghost Vine, and Man Faced Demon Spider. These choices gave his Blue Silver Grass a poisonous, foul-smelling nature 65 125.

Tang San later discovered Yu Xiaogang's records documenting the changes to his martial soul and realized that his cultivation route—and even the theory that he possessed Twin Martial Souls—had been treated as an experiment. The revelation left him fearful that incompatible future spirit rings could cripple him 125.

Appearance

Tang San's Blue Silver Grass is depicted as black-purple after repeated poison-attribute ring absorption, emitting a foul, fishy odor 248.

  • Wields Blue Silver Grass as his primary displayed martial soul 65.
  • Possesses the Clear Sky Hammer, which he used to block Bibi Dong's attack while unconscious 156.
  • Later carried the divine artifact Asura Demon Sword 248.

Personality

Tang San is fiercely loyal to Yu Xiaogang and repeatedly reacts with anger when the latter's theories or reputation are challenged. He challenged Chen Xing specifically to defend Yu Xiaogang's chosen spirit-ring path, even after Chen Xing criticized it 65.

He is adaptable in combat, switching from Blue Silver Grass to hidden weapons after Chen Xing cut through his vines. However, his determination often becomes impulsiveness: he attempted to attack Flender with the Clear Sky Hammer during the dispute over Ma Hongjun's regressed martial soul 65 124.

His attitude toward soul beasts is marked by hostility and prejudice. Upon learning that Xiao Wu was a soul beast, he killed her despite her attempt to explain herself 247. After Tang Hao's death, he concealed his consciousness, resolved to survive, and sought revenge against Chen Xing 154.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul

Tang San's Blue Silver Grass was strengthened through multiple beast-type and poison-attribute spirit rings, granting it poisonous properties but changing it far from Ah Yin's life-attribute Blue Silver Emperor 65 125.

  • Manifested with three rings: two yellow and one purple 65.
  • Used to attack and restrain opponents during his duel with Chen Xing 65.
  • Carries a poison attribute and emits a fishy stench 65 248.
  • Its future stability became uncertain because of potentially conflicting spirit-ring attributes 125.

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang San possesses the Clear Sky Hammer, his second martial soul.

  • Used it in an attempted strike against Flender before Zhao Wuji restrained him with Gravity Control 124.
  • Blocked Bibi Dong's attack with it while unconscious during the confrontation involving Tang Chen 156.

Hidden Weapons

Tang San employs unusual hidden weapons and throwing techniques.

  • Used a strange throwing technique to save Yu Xiaogang from a Datura Snake 1.
  • Shifted to hidden weapons during his duel when his Blue Silver Grass was countered 65.
  • His hidden weapons, combined with Blue Silver Grass, once caught Zhao Wuji off guard during the freshman assessment 127.
  • Unleashed hidden weapons alongside his Soul Skills against Chen Xing 155.

Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track

A movement technique used to rapidly change position in battle.

  • Tang San used it to dart around Chen Xing during their duel, though Chen Xing remained stationary 66.

Asura Demon Sword

A divine artifact wielded by Tang San in his later conflict with Chen Xing.

  • Tang San relied on the sword while boasting of his power after reappearing years later 248.
  • Its possession coincided with his advancement to Soul Douluo 248.

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — Father. Tang Hao investigated Yu Xiaogang's treatment of Tang San and later fled with him from Chen Xing; Tang San sought vengeance after Tang Hao's death 125 151 154.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and mentor. Tang San passionately defended his theories, but their relationship was strained after Tang San learned he may have been used as an experimental subject 65 125.
  • Xiao Wu — Close companion. Tang San was protective of her, but killed her after discovering she was a soul beast 58 82 247.
  • Chen Xing — Rival and enemy. Chen Xing saved Tang San from a Man Faced Demon Spider, repeatedly defeated him, killed Tang Hao, and ultimately killed Tang San 58 66 113 154 306.
  • Flender — Shrek Academy dean. Their relationship became hostile when Tang San attempted to attack him amid the dispute over Ma Hongjun's martial soul regression 124.
  • Tang Chen — Grandfather. Tang Chen sacrificed himself to save Tang San 248.
  • Asura God — Former prospective successor and patron. The Asura God later rejected Tang San after his failed God Trial and sent him back to the continent 304 305.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Early Shrek Conflict

Tang San reunited with Chen Xing in the Star Dou Forest after struggling against a Man Faced Demon Spider. Chen Xing killed the spider in one strike and saved Tang San, who respectfully thanked the mysterious powerhouse 57 58.

At Shrek Academy, Tang San challenged Chen Xing for criticizing Yu Xiaogang's theories. His Blue Silver Grass was easily cut apart by Purple Imperial Bamboo, and Chen Xing ultimately knocked him unconscious with a kick 65 66.

Yu Xiaogang's Experiment

Following Ma Hongjun's martial soul regression, Tang San attacked Flender while defending Yu Xiaogang. The discovery of Yu Xiaogang's records subsequently forced him to question whether his own poison-oriented Blue Silver Grass cultivation had made him a test subject 124 125.

Conflict with Chen Xing and Tang Hao's Death

Tang San fled west with Tang Hao, pursued by Chen Xing. At Slaughter City, Chen Xing trapped both father and son; Tang San's views on humans and soul beasts led Tang Hao to strike him 151 152.

After Chen Xing confronted Tang Hao over his past, Tang Hao died in despair. Tang San feigned unconsciousness, learned the truth of his family history, and resolved to avenge his father 154. He later fought Chen Xing with his full power, hidden weapons, and Soul Skills 155.

Xiao Wu's Death

Tang San reunited with Xiao Wu but reacted violently upon learning she was a soul beast. He stabbed her, causing her death and transformation into a Soft Bone Rabbit and blood-red soul ring 247.

Return as a Soul Douluo

Years later, Tang San returned wielding the Asura Demon Sword and challenged Chen Xing. He had reached Soul Douluo, with two purple and six black spirit rings, but was shocked by Chen Xing's vastly superior ring configuration 248.

God Trial, Demotion, and Death

Tang San became a god and concealed his aura to escape detection, but later failed the requirements for a God Position. The God of Destruction demoted him back to the continent, while the Asura God teleported him to Tiantou City in the expectation that Chen Xing would kill him 287 304 305.

Desperate to escape, Tang San attempted to take a hostage, but Chen Xing anticipated the move and severed his right leg. He later begged Chen Xing for mercy after being subjected to Mind Reading; Chen Xing killed him to eliminate any future threat 305 306.

Trivia

  • Tang San's retained Blue Silver Emperor bloodline could be sensed by Chen Xing after the latter fused with Purple Imperial Bamboo bloodline power 57.
  • His poison-attribute Blue Silver Grass was described as fundamentally unlike Ah Yin's pure life-attribute Blue Silver Emperor 125.
  • The Asura God came to regret selecting Tang San as a successor, viewing him as unfit for a God Realm position 304.
