Upon seeing Chen Xing's Purple Bamboo martial soul, he loses his composure and attempts to examine him, then immediately demands details about his soul rings and skills. Flender intervenes, emphasizing that a soul master's skills are private. 62 63

After Chen Xing explains that physical constitution affects Innate Soul Power, Yu Xiaogang recognizes the value of the insight and considers publishing it under his own name. He offers to take Chen Xing as a personal disciple, but Chen Xing's questions expose weaknesses in his proposed cultivation path. 64

Yu Xiaogang's conflict with Chen Xing escalates after Tang San is defeated in a sparring match. He calls for Chen Xing's expulsion, doubles his training load for arriving late, and dismisses Chen Xing's proposal to use Zhao Wuji's Gravity Domain as a more efficient method of physical training. 66 74 76

Tang Hao later confronts Yu Xiaogang over using Tang San as a test subject for spirit-ring theories.
