Background / History

Ling Mie is a Ling Clan patriarch who has lived for thousands of years and belongs to the same generation as Gu Yuan. Though initially described as a middle-aged man, he appears young for his age. He fathered Ling Yuan late in life and dotes on him, particularly because Ling Yuan possesses the most potent Ling Clan bloodline seen in a millennium 2.

As a late Six-Star Dou Sheng, Ling Mie approves Ling Yuan's decision to leave the clan for experience in the Northwest Continent. He supports his son's independence while remaining a reliable source of authority, resources, and protection for the young patriarch 2.

When Ling Yuan returns with the Ten Thousand Bodies Origin Return Technique and information on the Tou She Ancient God's Cave Mansion, Ling Mie is initially more shaken by the cave mansion's significance. After examining the technique, however, he recognizes its exceptional value and agrees to replace his original cultivation method with it 35 36.

The new technique restores his ambition. He creates eight avatars, deploys them in the Northwest Continent for concealment, and uses their accumulated cultivation to drive successive breakthroughs 63 64 71 80. He later receives additional Demon Saint Essence Blood from Ling Yuan while attempting to reach Eight-Star Dou Sheng before the birth of his grandchild 177.

Ling Mie and Ling Yuan investigate Soul Hall activity after detecting Hun Miesheng's suspicious movements. Their search across several Soul Hall branches uncovers cores of the Soul Clan's Spirit Devouring Absolute Life Formation, exposing preparations for a continent-spanning scheme 130 131.

During the conflict with the Ancient and Soul Clans, Ling Mie acts directly to defend the Ling Realm. He confronts Gu Yuan after the latter enters Ling Clan territory and attacks those present 221.

Although his clone network provides considerable insurance, one of Ling Mie's Dou Sheng avatars is later killed in Dou Emperor City alongside avatars belonging to Ling Yuan and Zhu Kun 257. After Ling Yuan opens a planar passage and Origin Qi returns to the Douqi Continent, Ling Mie eventually follows the same clone-based path of cultivation to become a Dou Di 278.

Ling Mie is presented as a composed, youthful-looking patriarch despite his immense age. His usual restrained demeanor carries an inviolable majesty befitting a high-ranking Dou Sheng 2.

Ling Mie is calm, restrained, and practical in clan affairs. He does not dismiss Ling Yuan's unusual discoveries, and he is willing to abandon his established cultivation method when convinced that the replacement offers a genuine path forward 35 36.

He is deeply indulgent toward his son, granting most of Ling Yuan's requests and supporting both his training journey and his relationships outside the Ling Clan. Despite the clan's emphasis on bloodline, he permits Ling Yuan to choose wives beyond the clan and encourages him to continue the Ling bloodline 2 39.

Toward threats, Ling Mie is ruthless and decisive. Once he and Ling Yuan identify someone as an enemy, he favors eliminating them completely rather than testing them or allowing them an opportunity to escape 130 143.

Ling Mie's long-suppressed ambition resurfaces after adopting the Ten Thousand Bodies Origin Return Technique. Rather than treating Seven-Star Dou Sheng as his final goal, he sets his sights on Eight-Star and even Nine-Star Dou Sheng, convinced that Ling Yuan is the Ling Clan's chance to rise again 63.
