Background

Yu Xiaogang accepted Tang San as his foster son after Tang San asked to become family rather than merely an apprentice. He immediately sought to recruit Ye Lin as another disciple, but she refused him. 4

He later escorted Tang San and Ye Lin to the Soul Hunting Forest, instructing them on Spirit Rings, soul beasts, and Spirit Master permits. During the expedition, he summoned Luo Sanpao to guide the group and repel Nether Wolves. A Datura Snake's venom was transferred from Luo Sanpao to Yu Xiaogang, leaving his right arm severely poisoned; Tang San subsequently severed the arm. 6 8

After arriving at Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang expected Tang San to rank among its strongest students. Flender's assessment instead placed Tang San at the bottom of the eight students, which Yu Xiaogang refused to accept. Flender and Zhao Wuji initially rejected his application to teach due to his character and his influence on Tang San, ultimately allowing him to teach Tang San alone. 33 35

Yu Xiaogang repeatedly attempted to make Ye Lin and other Shrek students his disciples. Ye Lin refused, while the other students avoided or rejected him; he had previously used his connection to Notting Academy's dean to obstruct attempts to take Ye Lin to obtain a second Spirit Ring. 39

Following further injuries, Tang San took Yu Xiaogang to a clinic, where his condition required the removal of his damaged genitalia to prevent infection. Yu Xiaogang accepted Tang San's actions without blaming him. 38

He later consulted Bibi Dong about Tang San's Twin Martial Souls, learning that physical strength was the key factor in safely absorbing Spirit Rings. Yu Xiaogang retrieved two spirit bones for Tang San, enabling him to reach Rank 30. 69

Appearance

Yu Xiaogang is a one-armed man after the loss of his right arm. Bibi Dong observes that, despite being only a year younger than her, he appears middle-aged to elderly. 33 68

He is also persistent and opportunistic. He continues pursuing Ye Lin as a disciple after repeated refusals, secretly records her explanation of Self-Created Soul Skills, and considers presenting it as his own earlier theory. 39 94
