Background / History

Yu Xiaogang accompanied Flender and the Shrek group to Soul Village to conduct spirit awakenings. During the tests, he dismissed children with little or no soul power as “trash,” telling them to abandon the soul master path and farm instead. His treatment of the children helped turn the village against him after Liu Yuan exposed his behavior. 2 4

When Liu Yuan rejected recruitment by Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang accepted Tang San's proposal to frame him as an Evil Soul Master and eliminate him. The plan failed when the villagers openly denounced Yu Xiaogang's group and protected Liu Yuan. 5

Years later, Liu Yuan targeted Yu Xiaogang at Shrek Academy. Yu Xiaogang was followed to a Suotuo City brothel, where his conduct led Liu Yuan to conclude that he had deceived and failed to take responsibility for Bibi Dong and Liu Erlong. 26 Liu Yuan's clone subsequently mutilated and humiliated Yu Xiaogang, severing his arm and ear, forcing him to slap himself a thousand times and perform degrading acts, and ultimately castrating him before escaping. 28 29 30 32 33

With Tang San's rise, Yu Xiaogang became Heaven Dou Empire's state preceptor and increasingly relied on Tang San's reputation and protection. He planned to use Tang San's future divinity to overthrow the Heaven Dou royal family and rule through his position as Tang San's teacher. 59 60

During the war against Martial Soul Hall, Xiao Wu infiltrated the Heaven Dou camp and exploited Yu Xiaogang's attraction to her. She discovered his secret underground chamber, where he kept captive women, then confronted him on Liu Yuan's orders. 61 62 Xiao Wu destroyed Luo Sanpao and crippled him, but Yu Xiaogang escaped after using a signal flare to summon aid. 63 64

While fleeing Xiao Wu, Yu Xiaogang used Flender as a human shield, causing Flender's death. He then deceived Liu Erlong into believing he was innocent and redirected the Shrek group's anger toward the Holy Spirit Cult. 65 66 67

Yu Xiaogang later participated in the surprise attack on the Pope Palace alongside Tang Sect soul masters. 137 Liu Erlong finally learned of his crimes—including Flender's death—through a memory-projection mirror and turned against him. 143 Liu Yuan captured Yu Xiaogang, forced him to swallow a poison pill, and ultimately had Gu insects consume his flesh and blood before scattering his manifested soul. 144 145

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is portrayed as status-conscious, arrogant, and highly dependent on stronger people—especially Tang San—to secure authority and safety. He takes personal pride in Tang San's accomplishments, treating his disciple's victories as proof of his own greatness. 2 59 136

He is also manipulative and vindictive. After failing to recruit Liu Yuan, he was willing to smear him and arrange his death rather than accept rejection. 5 When threatened, however, his confidence gives way to desperation: he begged for his life, complied with Liu Yuan's humiliating demands, used concealed weapons and poison to flee, and sacrificed Flender to save himself. 29 31 32 65
