Background / History
Approximately 120 years before Gu Hang's arrival, Nuxiao Planet was an ordinary world. A catastrophic war destroyed its surface environment and left it a wasteland planet. Twenty-nine years later, the Imperial government judged that recovery remained possible and dispatched a Planetary Governor to oversee reconstruction. 2
The planet has had five governors over those twenty-nine years. The three governors immediately preceding Gu Hang each lasted only two years, failing to survive long enough to face their first biennial Imperial tax collection. 2
Under Gu Hang's arrangement with the Sector Government, Nuxiao Planet must pay one-quarter of the standard Imperial tax within two years; after four years, it will be expected to pay the full amount. The planet had historically managed only one-eighth of the standard requirement. 1 2
Environment
Most of Nuxiao Planet's land is uninhabitable. Waste-energy storms continue to rage across its surface, while mutated alien creatures, bandits, and scavengers threaten isolated survivors. 1
- The planet has no companion satellite or moon. 19
- The western forest contains large numbers of alien monsters and incubation nests; it became a major clearing-operation zone for Gu Hang's forces. 37 40
- River Valley Manor is an unusually lush and fertile area amid the wider wasteland. 19
- Waste-energy storms are among the planet's most dangerous disasters and restrict settlement, agriculture, mining, and industrial development. 17 22
Government and Imperial Status
The Empire grants Planetary Governors broad authority over their worlds, provided they remain loyal. In practice, tax payment is the measure of that loyalty: governors who fail to meet the required quota are executed and replaced. 2
The Alliance was established twenty-nine years earlier for Nuxiao Planet's first governor and remains its primary political authority. Revival City serves as its capital. 2 14
Gu Hang did not immediately assume control of the Alliance after arriving. Instead, he established a camp outside Revival City and began building an independent military and industrial base, intending eventually to bring the city and its resources under his direct control. 2 14 26
The Imperial Navy cruiser Quintet remains in orbit for a two-year mission to support the governor. Its orbital bombardment capability is the planet's greatest military deterrent. 11 14
Settlements and Regions
| Location | Description |
|---|---|
| Revival City | The Alliance capital and the largest nearby settlement; it has substantial manpower, light industry, and commercial exchange. 2 14 |
| Governor's Camp | Gu Hang's base outside Revival City, being developed as a transport hub and light-industrial center. 2 33 |
| Waste Mine Society | An early foundation of Gu Hang's reconstruction program and planned heavy-industrial center, focused on Alloy Plasteel production. 11 16 33 |
| Trash Town | A survivor settlement 100 kilometers north of the Waste Mine Society. Its Agents dominate trade in scavenged metal and energy resources. 16 17 |
| River Valley Manor | A productive riverside farm and manor seized by Gu Hang's forces; it is expected to provide grain after harvest. 19 26 |
| Xenomorph Forest | Monster-infested woodland containing incubation nests and the site of the battle involving the 3rd Infantry Battalion. 37 40 |
Economy and Reconstruction
Nuxiao Planet lacks the capacity to mass-produce Alloy Plasteel, relying instead on comparatively primitive steel. Alloy Plasteel's strength and corrosion resistance make it especially valuable in the planet's harsh conditions. 16
Gu Hang established an Alloy Plasteel smelting line at the Waste Mine Society using Black Box Fabricator-derived components. The society successfully produced its first ingots, though growth remains limited by raw-material and energy shortages. 11 16
- Heavy industry — The Waste Mine Society is planned as the center for Alloy Plasteel production and a future Thermal Ash Stone power plant. 33
- Light industry — The Governor's Camp is planned to develop textile production and synthetic-starch food processing. 33
- Food supply — The Quintet provided synthetic starch technology capable of converting organic matter into edible starch blocks. 28 32
- Labor policy — Gu Hang recruits refugees and former displaced people, offering work, rations, welfare, literacy classes, and technical training. 33 34
- Trade — Trash Town provides raw materials and energy, while Gu Hang seeks to exchange food and industrial goods for those resources. 17 29
Major Threats
Waste-Energy Storms
The cult known as the Primal Owlbear Cult believes the storms are the wrath of its deity, the Primal Owlbear. Its efforts to spread storm pollution have destroyed farmland, prevented mining, and ruined factories across the planet. 22
Primal Owlbear Cult
The cult sacrifices nonbelievers as part of an alleged planetary atonement ritual. It is considered both an Imperial heresy and a public enemy on Nuxiao Planet due to its attacks on settlements and sabotage of recovery efforts. 22
Mutant and Alien Monsters
Mutated creatures inhabit the wasteland and forests. The incubation nests found west of the Governor's Camp continuously produce monsters, including corrosive Abscess Sprayers, making their destruction a military priority. 37 41
Greenskins
Greenskins are present on Nuxiao Planet despite Imperial kill-on-sight policy. Their ability to develop rapidly after consuming sentient brains makes them a potential technological and military catastrophe. 3 5
Name Origin
Nuxiao Planet is named after the Nuxiao, a giant native predatory creature that existed before the world-ending war. Records describe it as bear-like and feathered, with an owl-like head and deer antlers; despite a normally docile nature, it was extremely fierce when enraged. 22
