History
Thanos’s Collection and Azu’s Takeover
Thanos initially possesses the gauntlet and Power Stone when Azu arrives aboard the Asgardian refugee ship. Azu takes the Power Stone but deliberately allows Ebony Maw to steal the Tesseract, intending to let Thanos obtain Stones that would be difficult to secure himself. Thanos breaks open the Tesseract and installs its Space Stone in the gauntlet 301 302 303 306.
On Titan, Thanos uses the Soul Stone to threaten Tony Stark’s soul, prompting Doctor Strange to offer the Time Stone. Azu intercepts the exchange. By his arrival in Wakanda, Azu has killed Thanos and taken the gauntlet; he then pursues Shuri for the Mind Stone 312 319.
Azu uses time reversal to restore the destroyed Mind Stone, completing his collection. With all six Stones, he confronts the assembled heroes and later asserts control over Thanos’s fleet. When Cull Obsidian attacks him, Azu transforms the warrior into a Lego toy with the Reality Stone 321 324 327.
The Administrator Wish
After gathering the Stones, Azu wishes to become an Administrator of the Multiverse. An Administrator speaks through Proxima Midnight, explains that the wish cannot be granted, and instead offers an Ultimate Mission through which Azu might achieve that position 327.
Upon returning to The Boys Universe, Azu finds that the gauntlet’s Stones have become ordinary crystals without special properties. He removes the gauntlet and leaves it on a table as a decoration 328.
Theft Attempt on Anti-Earth
The Guardians of the Galaxy plan to steal the gauntlet to pursue Gamora’s resurrection. Their strategy relies on Mantis putting Azu to sleep, followed by using the gauntlet to teleport their enemies away and return the team to its ship 388 393 398.
The attempt fails. Azu escapes their restraint by becoming intangible and uses the Mind Stone to brainwash the participating Guardians. The gauntlet makes this control more thorough than Loki’s earlier control of Hawkeye through his scepter 400.
Loan to Ikaris
Azu lends the gauntlet to Ikaris while secretly overseeing the Emergence crisis. Rather than help stop Tiamut’s awakening, Ikaris uses it against the Eternals and their allies, blasting Hulk away, teleporting Thor to Jotunheim, and reversing an attempt to freeze the Celestial 407 408.
Azu subsequently kills Ikaris and reclaims the gauntlet before confronting Tiamut 409.
Later Battles and Concealment
During the conflict with the John Empire, the Avengers identify removing the gauntlet as their best chance against Azu. He seemingly accommodates their demand by taking it off and equipping a clone with it, alongside the Darkhold. Loki’s attempt to steal the artifacts is stopped by Azu’s Bio-Field 507 508 509.
At New Asgard, the heroes again plan to remove the glove. Although the confrontation appears to end with Thor defeating the Conqueror and taking him and a gauntlet away, the detailed passage states that Azu has concealed the real Infinity Gauntlet with the Reality Stone and kept it with him. He uses its Power Stone to break magical restraints 549.
Abilities & Applications
Space Stone
Enables travel and direct manipulation of spatial rules.
- Opens portals for movement between planets, including Azu’s journey to Jotunheim 482.
- Allows Ikaris to banish Thor to Jotunheim 407.
- Can isolate a target’s surrounding space, preventing escape even when the target moves a substantial distance; Azu uses this against Hercules 485.
Time Stone
Reverses events within the affected area.
- Reassembles the destroyed Mind Stone from its fragments 321.
- Allows Ikaris to undo Tiamut’s freezing, restoring the Celestial’s awakening 408.
Reality Stone
Changes physical forms and overrides existing manifestations.
- Transforms Cull Obsidian into a Lego toy 327.
- Erases Doctor Strange’s magically created duplicates 386.
- Supports Azu’s ability to rewrite reality within a limited range, including stripping Loki of his magical powers 510.
- Conceals the real gauntlet while Azu continues carrying it 549.
Mind Stone
Imposes mental control on other beings.
- Brainwashes the Guardians involved in the failed theft attempt into loyal warriors 400.
- Enables Azu to question the controlled Guardians about their plans and Earth’s impending Emergence 401.
- With the gauntlet, produces more thorough control than Loki’s scepter-based domination of Hawkeye 400.
Power Stone
Provides destructive energy and force sufficient to overcome powerful resistance.
- Produces a purple energy torrent that blasts Hulk tens of thousands of meters into the sky 407.
- Supplies Ikaris with destructive beams against Thena 408.
- Breaks magical restraints on Azu when he clenches the gauntlet 549.
Soul Stone
Manipulates, attacks, and anchors souls.
- Allows Thanos to threaten the destruction of Tony Stark’s soul and summon dead Titans as an undead army 312 314.
- Enables Azu to exile Captain Marvel’s soul after teleporting her to Titan 328.
- Anchors Hercules’s soul after he personally declares that it belongs to Azu 485.
- Gives Azu a soul projection through which he can torture Hercules or destroy his soul, even across galaxies 485.
Combined Stone Use
Azu describes the Stones as permissions or “keys” to the underlying rules of the Marvel Universe. Multiple Stones can influence one another to produce cumulative, more complex effects 485.
- The completed gauntlet lets Azu handle Vision and Wanda through basic Stone applications; Doctor Strange’s involvement requires him to become more serious 324.
- All six Stones draw surrounding debris, smoke, vehicles, flames, projectiles, explosions, and beams into a sunlike orb possessing extreme heat and immense mass 386.
- Gamora warns that a complete collection would let Thanos erase half of all life with a finger snap; this is his intended use, not a completed event in the supplied passages 301 304.
Limitations & Conditions
- Universe dependence: The Stones become ordinary, powerless crystals when Azu returns to The Boys Universe 328.
- Carrier dependence: An empty gauntlet has no Stones to channel and is described as a blank carrier 348.
- Wish limits: The complete collection cannot directly grant Azu Administrator status 327.
- Resurrection exception: Doctor Strange believes the completed gauntlet could revive Stark, but states that people sacrificed to the Stones cannot be brought back, preventing that method from restoring Gamora 316.
- Soul-anchoring requirement: Hercules must personally speak the key declaration that his soul belongs to Azu. The oath itself is a pretext for fulfilling the Soul Stone’s activation condition 485.
- Bounded reality rewriting: Azu’s demonstrated reality alteration is described as operating within a certain range 510.
Wielders & Claimants
- Thanos — Original observed wielder; seeks all six Stones to eliminate half of the universe’s life 301 303.
- Azu / Conqueror — Takes the gauntlet from Thanos, completes its collection, and researches deeper Stone applications 319 321 485.
- Ikaris — Receives it on loan from Azu and uses it to ensure Tiamut’s Emergence; loses it when Azu kills him 407 408 409.
- Azu’s clone — Temporarily equipped with the gauntlet while Azu agrees to fight without wearing it himself 508.
- Guardians of the Galaxy — Attempt to steal it as part of their plan to restore Gamora; Azu defeats and brainwashes them 398 400 401.
- Loki — Attempts to steal it from Azu’s clone but cannot bypass the Bio-Field 509 510.
- Avengers — Repeatedly seek to remove it, reasoning that possession would reduce Azu’s advantage and potentially allow them to erase him 507 549.
Trivia
- A Stone-free Infinity Gauntlet appears in Azu’s shop for 15 Multiverse Crystals 348.
- Before obtaining it, Azu identifies reality-altering artifacts such as the gauntlet as threats that overwhelming physical strength alone cannot overcome 165.
- Azu considers Thanos’s use of the gauntlet superficial compared with the deeper applications uncovered through his own research 485.
